Old Verizon phone on Sprint network?

My sister gave me her old verizon treo 700 and I wanted to use it on my sprint service plan. Is this possible? I called sprint and they said something about it not showing up on their network or database or something I forget. It might be because she only transfered her old phone number to her new phone(different carrier) and hasnt called verizon to actually cancel her service thinking that it would be done automaticaly but shes going to call and cancel it tomorrow for sure. anyways can verizon branded phones be used on sprint network?

Is there a reason why not? I've read that its because Verizon wont release the esn code or what not to other carriers, but when I spoke with the verizon technical support person, they told me it wouldnt work because the different branded phones are only made to be used with a specific carrier.

Phone carriers will lock the phone to only work on their systems. Unlike GSM phones, CDMA phone cannot be unlocked for use on other carriers.

From what I heard, sometime mid next year Verizon and Sprint will allow any cdma phones to work on their network.

Yup, as result of a lawsuit, sprint will be allowing the unlocking of their phones in the near future.

yeah I got the iPhone before my contract was up with sprint. Had to get a new number but it was worth it. I'm typing this using my new iPhone. Its great it even automatically spell check and put in punctuation!

yea i work for sprint and also have an iphone. you cannot use other networks phone with sprint service. nextel phones will not even work off of sprint towers, only the new hybrid phones will work on sprint or nextel towers. and yes they will be making it so that you can use phones on different networks but noone really knows when yet
