Notebook Battery Vista Problem

We decided to get my dad a new laptop for his 50th birthday. It's an hp DV6000 series with 2gb ram, t5600 cent. duo processor, 120gb harddrive, etc

for some reason, we plugged it in and the battery reads - Plugged in, not charging.

I've read some testimonies that have the same problem... but no solution so far... i've tried toying with the settings for the battery but no help...

Ideas?

BTW its one hell of a laptop for $1,200

Why does everyone blame Vista for every little thing? I don't think Vista and the battery not working has anything to do with each other...

just saying vista because i thought the OS was relevant and because some people have the same problem - Other OS users dont see "plugged in, not charging"

Didn't you all hear? Windows Vista and its associated flaws caused Global Warming, the sinking of the Titanic, Waco and contributed to the inflation of the late 1970's.

^^ While I knew Vista cause the sinking of the Titanic, I never knew it was the cause of the Waco Branch Davidians mess. It makes sense in hind sight.
