New 21.5" iMac w/Retina Display

Over the past six months or so I could no longer ignore the fact that my MacBook Pro from late 2011 was starting to really slow down from all the porn stuff I keep on it, especially with my getting a bit more involved in photography. I began weighing my options and thought about keeping the MBP for home and getting an iPad for travel but didn't like the idea of not being able to type or plug in USB flash drives. After seeing the smaller iMac was finally being offered with the 4K Retina display, I began putting some money aside and I ordered it last Monday and it showed up on Friday right before I left for work. After a few days, I don't regret the spend of money at all because this puppy is loaded: 2TB Fusion Drive, 3.3 Ghz processor and 16 GB of RAM means it is lightning fast. The Bluetooth 'Magic Keyboard' and mouse work great and the keyboard itself is very easy to type on. Another thing I love is that I can now Air Drop stuff onto the iMac from my iPhone, something the MacBook was too old to allow. Was it expensive? You bet your ass it was but each of my previous Apple computers have lasted no less than five years before starting to slow down and both still work provided you have enough patience.

In the four days I've had it, the iMac has helped me add another ten pages to my book. I'm sure I can get many years out of this thing.

I love the Magic Mouse. I've had one since 2011. I'm currently running a fully loaded MBP, and it makes the 2010 Air look like .

I've been wanting to put in a request for the stand alone Retina display, but I thought it was limited to 2K. Did they recently release a newer one?

Also, is this the cylindrical shaped machine? I contemplated requesting one of those and just remote logging in, because that thing is a beast.

The cylindrical machine is the Mac Pro and that is WAAAAY beyond what I'm willing to spend but that being said, I've seen it at the Apple Stores and it is a work of freaking art, inside and out. This is the standard iMac which means it's the stand-alone monitor with all the internals built into it. It's quite thin around the edges and even though the back protrudes a bit, considering the hardware it's packing I think it's a brilliant piece of packaging.

Nice! Wonder how long my Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse will last before I pick up those new ones. I'm looking into replacing my 2011 MacBook Pro too. Count me in as one waiting for the 2016 MacBook Pros - decided to get a 1440p monitor for the old MBP since it's fine for photo editing and general desktop duty with a 840 Pro SSD. Now if only they can release the redesigned Skylake (or even Kaby Lake but I doubt it) 13" rMBP already

Very clean and minimalistic. My triple monitor Hackintosh attached to a big ugly box with lots of fans and hard drives is the polar opposite.

I was thinking of the 27" Thunderbolt display in my first post. Looking for it now, you can't find it on Apple's website, and I'm reading in-store stock is declining. Speculation is they are working on a 5K version with embedded GPU.
