Need help setting up a wireless internet connection

My dad has a 3-5 year old Sony Vaio PC and has a Netgear WG111T USB network adapter.... weird as hell, I plug it into any of the USB ports on his computer and the computer never recognizes it. I tried the network adapter on my laptop and it discovered it right away.

How can I set up the wireless network on my dad's computer? I know how to put in the access code and all but I can't connect it wireless on my dad's.

first off have you installed the drivers for it before plugging it in? If not get them from the netgear site. Also FYI I bet it doesn't support WPA2 or maybe even WPA so if your wifi network is secured using these technologies it might not be able to connect at all.

Go to device manager, right click and "Scan for hardware changes" to see if that looks for it.

Alright, thanks to you guys I got the internet up and the wireless running on my dad's PC. Now I have another question.

He has one of those 2WIRE modem/router combos and he also got a Netgear N router. To take advantage of the Netgear, do I just plug an ethernet cable from the modem/router to the router? Is the Netgear supposed to show up on the wireless networks too?

There should be a setting in the Netgear to make it just an access point and to disable the router function...Do that.
