Migrating Outlook content to new computer

I am helping my sister transfer all her files and stuff over from her old computer to her new. For Outlook, I went to grab her outlook.pst file, and noticed she has 4, named outlook.pst, Outlook2.pst, Outlook3.pst, and Outlook4.pst. Would I be correct in assuming I only need outlook.pst or are the other equally important? I will also grab the *.pab file. Anything else I should be looking for?

Each PST is separate and unique mail store. You should add each one into outlook at a data file.

If you are migrating to Windows 7... Use Window Easy Transfer, it will port it all for you.

Otherwise, port the files, it does not always port well. What version of Office is this?

only if it's not in App Data. If it's in App Data it will be lost unless you explicitly include the Outlook folder inside.. I know this from experience. Well it's not lost but it wont transfer by default.

just manually backup and transfer the PST files to the new installation.

Probably too late but I would transfer all the PST files unless some of them are small in size. Also don't forget the .nk2 file, that's the file that stores the names and email addresses in the pop down list that appears when you start typing in the "To:" field.

On Xp it's in C:\docs and settings\username\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\

People always get pissed when that isn't transferred

Open outlook
close outlook using exit and logoff
search for OST and PST and PAB files with the current date.
copy the files to new PC and put them where you want them
open outlook and point it to the current file location

seriously..."my address book is missing!". technically it isn't the address book, mr./mrs. user.

You can import NK2 files into outlook '10 by transferring it into %Appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook, then using the Run prompt with this command:

outlook.exe /importnk2

make sure your NK2 name also matches your new outlook profile name. By default, this is Outlook.
