after doing a little bit of research, one guy said it was the autounattended.xml file in the installation folder that was causing the problems. however i can't find the file in the iso....

let me check vmware and see what version i have, because it does prompt me to use vista.

what happens if you try to run Vista sp2 beta does that work?
Sp2 beta download
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

IDK of an iso for Vista Sp2 but Windows 7 should be pretty similar to sp2 I believe they share alot of code.

A couple notes on the Bitlocker for USB devices external storage feature. I enabled this for my USB flash drive that I use to store programs and utilities for when I'm fixing peoples PCs. Once you enable bitlocker the drive will work in XP and Vista and when inserted into a PC it prompts for a password, this drive will not work in OS X and probably not Linux either. In Vista the drive works flawlessly but in XP since it doesn't support bit locker natively it can only read files from the flash drive using the bitlocker to go reader which is run automatically when the drive is inserted and correct password entered. XP machines cannot write to a bit locker enabled drive. Also in XP files cannot be read directly from the flash drive, they must first be copied to the desktop before they can be opened which makes portable apps kinda dumb. None of these problems exist with Vista or Windows 7 everything works as expected. Due to these hurdles I've disabled bitlocker for my flash drive cause for it's purpose (mainly fixing slow XP machines) the pros outweigh the cons.

I think Microsoft just sent out the invites to Beta 1 on Friday. So if past precedent holds true, I would guess a minimum of 4-8 weeks before a public preview program appears.

I'm hearing Beta will be available sometime between Jan 5-13. Also I believe they are only doing one beta release and one RC release before RTM seeing as this thing is so stable.

And I'm running it..

I'm impressed. Its what the successor to XP should have been like. We'll just pretend Vista doesn't exist (ala Windows ME)

I'm downloading it right meow...

I'm hoping the beta 2 key from Vista works with this beta, do you know if it doesn Ken? Cause it worked with the first officially released build 6801 but not with the leaked unintended to be released build 6956 (which I'm running now).

I just downloaded and running it now. You don't even need to put in a key to install. I left it blank and it gave me 30 days to activate. I figure Microsoft would have released the public beta by then and I can get a key.

True, that's what I did for the build I'm running now.

I didn't have to put in a key nor activate it.

No expiration date either.

^during install it prompts for a key but you don't have to put one in but if you don't put one in you have 30 days to do so otherwise it's the whole WGA thing with limited rights etc, the same thing that happens if you pirate Windows. You're supposed to put one in eventually to prove you paid for it. Well I'm running build 7000 now and the Vista keys didn't work on this build either no biggie. Also I notice that flash didn't come installed on this build, maybe I was smokin rocks while installing the last build 6956 and didn't notice that I installed flash. Anyone else notice how well AZ blends in with Windows 7? They both have those touches of blue and they're just about the same hue. Browse AZ in IE 8 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

if anyone needs it longer than 30 days you can run

slmgr -rearm
before the 30day time limit. you can do this 3 times, but the public beta will be out before then so it shouldn't be necessary.

To give you an idea of how badass windows 7 will be here's a benchmark of a still beta 7 against XP and Vista

Originally Posted by ZDNet Hardware 2.0

The build I’m testing of Windows 7 (build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) is a beta build, and as a rule beta builds are usually more geared towards stability than performance. That said, the performance of this build should give us a clue as to how the OS is coming along.

Rather than publish a series of benchmark results for the three operating systems (something which Microsoft frowns upon for beta builds, not to mention the fact that the final numbers only really matter for the release candidate and RTM builds), I’ve decided to put Windows 7, Vista and XP head-to-head in a series of real-world tests to find out which OS comes out top.

The tests

There are 23 tests in all, most of which are self explanatory:

1. Install OS - Time it takes to install the OS
2. Boot up - Average boot time to usable desktop
3. Shut down - Average shut down time
4. Move 100MB files - Move 100MB of JPEG files from one hard drive to another
5. Move 2.5GB files - Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from one hard drive to another
6. Network transfer 100MB files - Move 100MB of JPEG files from test machine to NAS device
7. Network transfer 2.5GB files - Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from test machine to NAS device
8. Move 100MB files under load - Move 100MB of JPEG files from one hard drive to another while ripping DVD to .ISO file
9. Move 2.5GB files under load - Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from one hard drive to another while ripping DVD to .ISO file
10. Network transfer 100MB files under load - Move 100MB of JPEG files from test machine to NAS device while ripping DVD to .ISO file
11. Network transfer 2.5GB files under load - Move 2.5GB of mixed size files (ranging from 1MB to 100MB) from test machine to NAS device while ripping DVD to .ISO file
12. Compress 100MB files - Using built-in ZIP compression
13. Compress 1GB files - Using built-in ZIP compression
14. Extract 100MB files - Using built-in ZIP compression
15. Extract 1GB files - Using built-in ZIP compression
16. Install Office 2007 - Ultimate version, from DVD
17. Open 10 page Word doc - Text only
18. Open 100 page Word doc - Text and images only
19. Open simple Excel doc - Basic formatting
20. Open complex Excel doc - Including formula and charts
21. Burn DVD - Win 7 beta 1 .ISO to disc using CDBurnerXP
22. Open 10 page PDF - Text only, using latest Adobe Reader 8
23. Open 100 page PDF - Text and images, using latest Adobe Reader 8

These series of tests will pitch Windows 7 build 7000 32-bit against Windows Vista SP1 32-bit and Windows XP SP3 32-bit. The scoring for each of the tests is simple. The winning OS scores 1, the runner up 2 and the loser scores a 3. The scores are added up and the OS with the lowest score at the end wins.

The test systems

I’ve used two desktop systems as the test machines:

* An AMD Phenom 9700 2.4GHz system fitted with an ATI Radeon 3850 and 4GB of RAM
* An Intel Pentium D E2200 2.2GHz fitted with an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and 1GB of RAM

The results

Here are the results of the tests for the two systems:

Conclusion

The bottom line is that the more I use Windows 7 the more I like it. Sure, we’re looking at a beta build here and not the final code, so things could change between now and release (although realistically final code ends up being faster than beta code). Also I still have some nagging issues relating to the interface, and some concerns that the UAC changes will break applications and other code, especially installers, but overall Windows 7 beta 1 is a robust, solid bit of code.

Sure, Windows 7 is not XP, and never will be (thankfully). And if you’re put off by things such as activation and DRM, then Windows isn’t the OS for you (good news is there are others to choose from). But if you’re looking for a solid OS then Windows 7 seems ready to deliver just that - a fast, reliable, relatively easy to use platform for your hardware and software.

why dont you just install it? They added this menu call "Movie Library". I'm not sure how you get movies to show up though. Vista should have never been release; Windows 7 looks very promising from a media center perspective.

Well for one thing, it seems to load faster. Movies are added to the library simply by picking the folder they're in. It doesn't seem to recognize quite a few formats, such as MKV

Otherwise I haven't noticed anything "new" but I don't really use MC much.

There's h.264 support which was dropped from the Media Center Fiji update that upset alot of people. They probably did that to get people to upgrade to 7 but I hear directTV support is not coming anymore, MS and DirectTV decided not to pursue it probably cause of the economic situation they're cutting back on the non vital things.

<p>If you are attending the 2008 Professional Developers Conference you received a pre-beta <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span> build today (6801) which contains many features the <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> team has been developing over the past year. It’s my pleasure to take a few minutes to outline some of these new features for you. If you install this build do keep in mind it’s considered an ‘Alpha’ experience meaning some features may not be polished or work quite as well as they will in the final product AND things may change (mostly for the better we hope) between now and beta and RTM. So let's jump right in...</p> <p><strong>Start Menu</strong></p> <p><img alt="Start Menu" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallStartMenuTV.png"> </p> <p>The Start Menu gets a subtle refresh both in text treatment and iconography size. You can now see more items at any given time without feeling cluttered, and the readability has really improved. The new Start Menu is also designed to always overlay the current playing experience so it stays in one place. Another thing you will notice is it now remembers your last location strip between sessions (prior versions always launched to the TV + Movies strip).</p> <p><img alt="Now Playing" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallStartMenuNowPlaying.png"> </p> <p>We got a lot of complaints about the postage stamp size of the video thumbnail for Now Playing in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> Vista. You’ll be pleased to note it has returned to its larger size in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span> -- no more squinting! Another thing you will notice in this screen capture is the tile title has been moved out of the focusable rectangle -- we can now do much longer names as a result (a great usability enhancement for international versions of <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> where the languages make for really long titles).</p> <p><strong>Music</strong></p> <p>The user friendliness and design ethos really moves a notch up, especially for those with large libraries. [Note: Some of the user experience enhancements transcend any singular <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> area – I’ll introduce them throughout this post and try to note when the feature is shared.]</p> <p><img alt="Music Library With Album Art Alternatives" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicGalleryMissingCoverArt.png"> </p> <p>Do you have obscure albums with no album art available? In prior versions all of these would have a blue background + white text. With <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span> we mix it up a bit with random colors for these which makes them ‘blend in’ with your other album art for the Music Library gallery.</p> <p><img alt="Music Details" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicDetails.png"> </p> <p>Details is another shared feature throughout the product. You can think of details as a slide deck which puts much used features closer to your fingertips compared to prior versions. You move left and right to switch between panes and up and down to select items on that pane. This really bubbles up features which have been less than discoverable in the past.</p> <p><img alt="Music Now Playing Animation In" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicNowPlayingEnter.png"> </p> <p>&nbsp;<img alt="Music Now Playing Interactive Mode" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicNowPlaying.png"> </p> <p>Music Now Playing received a large makeover and I think you are really going to like it. When you start playback of music you navigate to the Now Playing page as in prior versions. After a while we fade out the action items and animate your album art into a slowly scrolling wall of covers and occasionally switch the currently playing album cover and metadata. When you press a button on the remote or move the mouse we bring back the action items and keep the wall of covers up in the background.</p> <p><img alt="Music Rating Shortcuts" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicRatings.png"> </p> <p>Rating your content has never been easier in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span>. By enabling Rating Shortcuts you can press the 1 through 5 buttons on the remote or keyboard to rate the music (or picture as this is one of the shared features) in real time.</p> <p><img alt="Music Turbo Scroll" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicLibraryTurboScroll.png"> </p> <p>Those folks with large music libraries will *really* like what we call ‘Turbo Scroll’ – another shared feature. When you hold down the left or right remote control buttons for a while we transition into an interface which presents the content in alphabetical chunks. Letting go of the button when you see the letter combination you want will im<span class="searchword">media</span>tely take you to that position in your library.</p> <p><img alt="Music Shared Library" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicLibrarySharedLibrary.png"> </p> <p>Shared Libraries are built on top of the Home Group features in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span> and is a shared feature across Music, Pictures, Videos and Recorded TV. Folks who have been clamoring for ‘Softsled’ will very much enjoy this feature as it allows you to peruse and enjoy content from multiple computers on your home network. In this screen capture I’m demonstrating how I can select my local music library or that shared by another user on my network named ‘Ethel’ on a computer named ‘Laptop’. Once selected, I can browse Ethels content in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span>.</p> <p><strong>Pictures</strong></p> <p>Photo enthusiasts have much to enjoy in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span> in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> – like music, the usability goes up a notch or two.</p> <p><img alt="Ambient Slide Show Start" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallPicturesAmbientSlideShow1.png"> </p> <p><img alt="Ambient Slide Show Zoom" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallPicturesAmbientSlideShow2.png"> </p> <p>There is a new Ambient Slideshow which will launch as a screen saver as well as when you invoke the new Play Favorites on the Start Menu. This pulls from your pictures rated 3 stars or higher. This slideshow features some nice zoom out (first screenshot) and zoom in animations (second screenshot) as well as slideshows within slideshows (kind of hard to explain -- it makes sense once you watch this new feature in action). If you are a photography fan and want to enjoy your pictures in an unstructured way you are going to really like this feature.</p> <p><img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallPicturesLibrary.png"></p> <p>Here is a view of the enhanced Picture Library. Ratings allow you to sort by rating (0-5 stars) like you can with tags we added in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> Vista. I’ll take a moment to note the static screen captures here don’t really do Turbo Scroll justice – the animations are quite nice! </p> <p><img alt="Picture Details" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallPictureDetails.png"> </p> <p>Picture Details bubbles up many of the simple photo editing features in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> as well as allows you to rate the picture.</p> <p><img alt="Slideshow in Start Menu Now Playing" src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallPictureSlideshowInNowPlaying.png"> </p> <p>In prior versions the slideshow disappeared from view when you pressed the Green Button and the only way to return was to use the back button (if the slideshow was still on the backstack) or go back through the library to start fresh. For more information on the TV Pack check out this post at The Green Button: <a title="http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/282555.aspx" href="http://blog.retrosight.com/ct.ashx?id=4d3ff60a-7be1-40ea-a3f2-a9d057a181ff&amp;url=http%3a%2f%2fthegreenbutton.c om%2fforums%2fthread%2f282555.aspx">http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/282555.aspx</a>. If you recall, the TV Pack was designed to enable TV standards in Asia and Europe. There are some nice additions in this area for <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span>...</p> <p>&nbsp;<img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallTVClickableSeekbar.png"> </p> <p>When you move your mouse you will notice the seek bar looks a little different. It's now 'clickable' which will take you to that relative position in the content. Many folks use the mouse with <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> and this feature has been wanted by that group for a while. Note the new [ HD ] logo which helps you identify high definition content. The slide and pane metaphor really begins to shine with TV (and movies) because it does such a great job of putting resources once buried across many screens 'closer' to you.</p> <p><strong>Movies</strong></p> <p>You'll notice the Movies experience has now been given a strip of its own with a few enhancements.</p> <p><img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMoviesGuide.png"> </p> <p>The improved Movies Guide has an [ HD ] pivot which makes finding that visual fidelity much easier.</p> <p><img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMovieDetails.png"> </p> <p>Movie Details again brings many layers of pages into a single location -- it's now much easier to jump around and find related content.</p> <p><strong>Extras</strong></p> <p><img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallExtrasLibrary.png"> </p> <p>We've listened to our developers and I'm happy to announce a new feature called 'Extras' which will be replacing Online <span class="searchword">Media</span>. I'll have a post out in the next couple of days with more information on this 'still in the planning phase' feature. As part of the rethinking of this area of the produce we've greatly simplified the gallery to make it much more user friendly. Gone are the myriad of [seemingly random] pivots (which were really filters). Now this gallery behaves much like the others in the product whereby the pivots are sorts and all of your applications are represented in each view.</p> <p>I don’t really have a screen capture of this next one but it’s worth noting: Application developers (more for you folks in a separate post) will be happy to know we’ve increased the number of custom Start Menu strips to a maximum of 20 (up from only 2 in <span class="searchword">Windows</span> Vista).</p> <p><strong>On Screen Keyboard</strong></p> <p><img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallOnScreenKeyboard.png"> </p> <p>Any time you need to perform text entry we've got a new on screen keyboard for your enjoyment. This feature alone will bring much 'Spousal Acceptance Factor' to your <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> experience. [Bonus: This same exact on screen keyboard is available for developers to invoke from their applications.]</p> <p><strong>Gadget</strong></p> <p><img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/GadgetOutOfBoxNoContent.png"> </p> <p>This is the gadget in its default configuration allow you to play your favorite music, slideshow (3 stars or better) or both. Turning off Internet TV and New Recorded TV will return the gadget to it's default, out of box configuration.</p> <p>Well, that's it for now -- there are other features in the build I've not covered here. If you discover one and want to know more let me know and I'll try to post additional information.</p> <p>I hope you've enjoyed this walk through of <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">Media</span> <span class="searchword">Center</span> in the PDC Build of <span class="searchword">Windows</span> <span class="searchword">7</span>. We've been busting at the seams to share what we've been working on these past months and are still hard at work making this the best version to date. We welcome any feedback you'd like to provide or questions you'd like to ask.</p>

<p>• <strong>Shows appear dissolved behind menus</strong> - When you're watching something and want to pull up a menu to add a new show or browse the channel guide, or even go into another area of the Media Center, the current show stays on, not as a picture-in-picture, but tastefully dissolved into the background.</p>

<p>• <strong>Chronological turbo scroll for channel guide</strong> - When you're looking at the channel guide, but want to go from Tuesday to Sunday in a hurry, you just hold down the arrow button on the remote, and the days start to whip by. Listings become a blur, but the days of the week, and the portions of the day, appear floating over the listings to give you an idea of when to stop.</p>
<p>• <strong>Live thumbnail forward and rewind</strong> - During HD video playback, you might want to jump around. Grab the time marker and drag it forward or back, and as you do, you see a miniature version of the show playing backwards or forwards at the same speed.</p>
<p>• <strong>Launch TV from Start menu</strong> - Media Center can occupy a pole position in the Start menu, and when you hover over the MC logo, a list of recently recorded shows pops up, along with other frequently used MC features.</p>
<p>• <strong>Floating Media Center gadget</strong> - Not only can you access shows from the Start menu, you can browse MC features from the desktop with the gadget. I am not clear whether or not you'll get to have actual video playing in it, but for people who need MC at their fingertips, this appears to be a nice, subtle execution.</p>

<p>• <strong>Alphabetical turbo scroll for music</strong> - The chronological turbo scroll on the channel guide is cool, but this one will come in more handy for me: As you scroll through the countless artists in your music collection, the names become a blur but your location in the alphabet is denoted by two letters, probably so that those longer letters like J, M, R and S can be broken up better.</p>
<p>• <strong>Drifting cover art grid</strong> - When you're playing a song, the album art for that track appears with some basic metadata, and all the cover art for every other track you own materializes and drifts in the background. The primary cover art jumps from side to side and top to bottom, so that everything is in constant, fluid motion.</p>
<p>• <strong>Scattered photos picture show</strong> - As you're playing music, you can opt for a photo show that essentially reaches into a folder, grabs a handful of shots, scatters them evenly around the page, and then zooms in on one at a time. A nice touch: In the wide angle, all the photos look like desaturated black-and-whites, but as each shot gets its own screen time, it magically becomes full color.</p>
<p>• <strong>Copy remote content</strong> - If you are browsing multiple libraries or Media Center PCs and come across a show you like, you can watch it or save it for later by hitting "make a copy." As long as there's no broadcast flag or some other DRM, the vid will flow over to your local HDD so you can watch it when you've left the network.</p>

<p>• <strong>Virtual channels without TV tuner</strong> - One of the new Media Center's central concerns is the new popularity of internet-based video, not just YouTube clips but whole TV episodes like those shown on Hulu. DVR functionality is key to making the most of an MC, but at launch there will be loads of virtual channels with shows you can watch just as easily. Microsoft demoed a special MSNBC channel that had clips and full shows; it's of course feasible for them to build similar channels for third-party web video services too.</p>

It plays great with the PS3 and probably the 360. You can natively stream mp4 and aac via WMP/WMC to your console now.

Windows 7 will have divx built in along with support H.264 video and AAC audio. The support for AAC will be welcome news for people with music and video that has been encoded in Apple iTunes, as Windows 7 will be able to play all iTunes media through Windows Media Player.Unfortunately, this won't apply to media that has been purchased from Apple's iTunes store, because Windows 7 can't decode the Apple FairPlay DRM, which Apple refuses to license to anyone else.

The Start Orb really lights up when you mouse over and click it, compared to Vista, giving more visible feedback that it's special.
I'm glad they are finally addressing this massive problem.

Windows 7 Beta is available now for MSDN and Technet subscribers and it will be available publicly on the 9th. I'm thinking I'm gonna try the 64 bit version when it comes out (I hear it available now on the torrents). This beta seems a little less stable than build 6956, I haven't had any apps crash really it just that the taskbar/aero glass color and desktop background will never stay at what I choose and I'm seeing some graphic distortion in using FF 3.0 and on the desktop. IDK if it's cause of the new Nvidia pre-release drivers that came out on 12/31 but somethings off. Other than that everythings seems fine. I also noticed that the Adobe master Collection CS4 works with the new jump list feature (this doesn't require any special code from adobe), I'm using it to open recent images, objects, or videos in PS, Ai and Pr, it even works with Lightroom 1.4. I'd like to see FF become compatible with jumplists like IE 8 is also the preview of all open tabs would be even better. Jump seems to work automatically with all programs that have an "open recent" feature.

Here's what jump lists looks like with PS CS4

Also the new Aero Snaps feature doesn't work with all apps. It only works with apps that are surrounded by the aero glass border which is most of them but there a few exceptions like iTunes, Adobe CS4 and Zune.

are the jumplists like quick recent files lists where you just click to open the list and then you click the file and it opens it in the program?

yup pretty much but you can also pin items to the jump list. Like for example I have my flash drive, c: drive and optical drives pinned to the Windows Explorer jump list so they're always there and that way it's quick access to them and I don't need to open my computer first to get to them. here's what my Windows Explorer and IE 8 jump list looks like (porn and all)

I hardly use IE though

Isn't this a lot cleaner than creating shortcuts? I like to keep my desktop clean. WMP has more function in it's jump list, it has a tasks option which gives you the ability to play a specific playlist or shuffle all your music, etc. These are just default stuff and programmers can make custom jump lists for their apps if they want. CS4 isn't jump list aware so this is what you get but if they wanted to adobe could make a custom jump list which I'd expect to see more of as Win 7 becomes more popular, it is still in beta.

you can put shortcuts into folders.. and put those folders wherever you want.. inc the Quick Launch bar.. thusly making them resemble Jump Lists. Hey, I just would have expected something more, I dunno, innovative for what's being hailed as the savior of that doomed failboat called Vista.

I got rid of all that new crap, I just don't see what is so "broken" with the traditional Windows layout. This beta is ROCK solid by the way, it has yet to crash or give me any issues.

Personally, I don't really think I'd use Jumplists, so I don't have any suggestions for it.

Give me something like, a Windows Explorer with tabbed window browsing that allows easy copying, moving, comparing and synchronization between multiple drives and/or network connections. It would also be nice to be able to maximize this window (as a quick toggle) and show all the tabs simultaneously, next to each other in a tiled column display. Especially on a widescreen high resolution setup (i.e. 1920x1200+) This would be great for comparing data and tree structures, along with copying and moving data. Of course, these custom views could be saved as workspaces for easy one-click access. I know you *could* do this currently by opening multiple windows and tiling them but that route would be too cumbersome to use it in any real, easily repeated fashion, imo.

Is there anything like that already? It would be helpful in managing redundant data such as photo archives.

This is just one idea off the top of my head, thinking about the way I work and the things that could help increase my workflow and/or make it more reliable and efficient. I could probably come up with a lot more ideas like this if I had the time, energy and motivation.
