Mac OS X Snow Leopard

So when did iLife begin to be included with purchases of Apple Computers? Was it during the Leopard life cycle or Panther?

^^You mean your MBP came with Tiger (10.4), right? Your iLife '07 or 08 applications should be on your Tiger system disk. You'd need to do a custom install from that disk and select only "bundled applications" or "reinstall bundled applications". That's how it was when I upgraded my Tiger-based first generation MBP to Leopard with a clean install.

So far so good with Snow Leopard on my Rev. A MBA. I had ~25gb free on my 64gb SSD and after SL install it went up to 34.29gb free. Nice gain. It took a long ass time to install though - no thanks to remote disk.
I feel it's running hotter and the fan is coming on more easily than with Leopard. Not sure if it's just my imagination or what. Oh, and yesterday evening the wifi didn't work when coming out of sleep. I had to reboot, but after that it hasn't happened again.

There is an open discussion and ticket about fans going faster/hotter with SL. So, you're not the first. You can find a lot of the issues (battery life dwindling, faster fans, etc.) on the APple Discussion Forums.

Seems like a few (maybe even half) of you are having issues. I'd probably recommend that you wait until at least 10.6.1 or 10.6.2. It's not liking your missing out on anything really, you won't experience the best of SL until developers starting making better apps for it and that's gonna be a while. Seems like upgrading now may cause more trouble than it's worth.

Well I've got a problem, when I close the lid of my macbook, it sleeps for about 2 seconds, then it cycles between sleep and wake while the lid is closed on it's own. I can hear the dvd drive make the looking for disk noise, and the back of the case illuminates because the screen is coming on. BALLS I have to turn the computer off or keep the lid open to stop it. I'm yet to see anything on the support forums, but I submitted a thing to Apple.

I'll admit that I haven't gone to read any of the forums, but with SL taking advantage of all the CPU cores and the GPU whenever it can, why wouldn't you expect it to cause a machine to run hotter and drain a battery faster?
Now if you want to argue there should have been a "high efficiency mode" or something similar that's fine. But that's a missing feature argument not really a technical flaw or bug with the OS.

In my mac, it doesn't even appear in system profiler, it appears it has screwed the pooch. Looking on the apple forums it seems quite common of a problem. Bad news is there's shitty fixes, apparently replacing the board doesn't work all the time, and sometimes the logic board needs to be replaced too. However people have had success with just buying a dongle and leaving it in the USB port.

you did a clean install and it doesn't work? and it didn't work in leopard? Are you have the same problems in SL that you had in 10.5? If so then it's probably a hardware issue. Have you looked in console to see if it's giving any errors when you try to use the BT radio?

edit: Fyi I did the SMU reset and the other one, crtl+option+P+r with no change. BT came back after I was on battery power and drained it fully and let it sit for 10 hours.

repair disk permissions in disk utility?
Console isn't hard it's just a program that keeps track of all the little things that go on in the background. So when you connect a device it'll show up in there and it'll say what it's doing and if it fails it will say so. I was messing around in console today because for some reason my dad's 3gs won't tether to his macbook but it tethers to my PC and my mom's mac and it tethers to his macbook when he's running Vista in bootcamp. The iphone works with iPhoto and iTunes but won't tether. So I was messing around to see what happens in console when I plug it in and I was seeing info about aquiring a network MAC address for the new network interface (the iPhone) and then I was getting failure messages for certain things.
So what you do is when you see something happen with your BT radio icon look and see what time it is then open console and make sure you're viewing all messages browse to that time (it should be there already) and look around for bluetooth and see if you see anything about failing, etc. then if you see a message that indicates failure then click on it hit cmd+ c to copy it and then paste it into google (be sure to remove the date and time before searching though) and see if it turns up anything.

found my first caveat...
was opening MS Word...said I needed to install Rosetta to open it....guess I'll just use Pages until a patch comes out.
Of course its a MS product that is my only fubar.

i've hit a couple of glitches relating to the flip4mac windows media plug in. i hear they have a beta that works though
logitech control center for my mouse doesn't work. the mouse works fine, but i had expose and a couple other things toggled to the additional buttons, which don't work now.
i had a startup script to compensate for a bug in leopard that would sometimes have the clock set incorrectly after using windows on my bootcamp partition. it pops up with the whole rosetta thing at startup now. i've been trying to disable it at startup, but haven't tested it yet

I bet there were some parts that required rosetta and MS felt it wasn't worth porting them over just then and it wasn't a big deal in leopard since rosetta came installed and was started silently in the background. Now that it's not included it can be slightly annoying the first time.
