Upgrade my MBP yesterday and as said already, it's more of a 'under the hood' upgrade, but it's well worth it for $29. Faster shutdown (quick before anyway) and other functions are quicker. Also they didn't lie that it saves up to 7 gigs of space. Saved me 6 gigs after the upgrade.

Also for those looking to see if their programs are compatible: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

I just ordered it today should be here by wednesday or thursday next week. I also ordered in incase neoprin sleeve for my 17" MBP. Do you think if I said this computer kept crashing they'd send me a new model MBP?

No, Apple won't send you a new product for crashes. They'll diagnose the problem, and replace the component (or have you reformat your HD) that is malfunctioning.

If you're cheap like me and don't have candybar, I finally figured out how to change the stock icons (thanks to macrumors). All you need to do is go to get info and under sharing/permission, authorize read/write to ALL.

Scrib, will do. thanks for taking care of that for me (my bad).

Installed without a hitch for me, not sure I notice much difference on my core duo MacBook in speed, shuts down a bit quicker. Going to do an install from a format next week when I get my external HD back, should notice significant improvement from that as I have not done a fresh install in over a year.

Anyone else notice their MB/MBP battery die much quicker? I used to get about 2:45 hrs out of my battery. Snow Leopard leaves me with barely 1:45. No changes, clean install after Leopard. No background processes.

One of the reasons why it looks like you have more free disk space is cause Apple calculates disk space differently in SL than in L. Leopard calculates 1gb as 1024mb while Snow Leopard calculates 1gb as 1000mb. This makes it seems as if you have more free disk space when you don't, it's just base 10 compared to base 2. They also did limit printer drivers, etc that saved disk space but I highly doubt there were 6gb of printer drivers.

My friend has a base model 20inch iMac he got in either late 07 or early 08 (which would make it identical to the 2ghz C2D my mom has) and he's been complaining about when using iMovie 09 he can't playback his current video project in iMovie without it stuttering and being pretty much unwatchable. The only way he can see his movies is to export them and then watch them then go back and make changes. I told him to check activity monitor to see if CPU usage was peaking during playback in iMovie and he told me it was. So he heard that SL is supposed to make your system faster and he's ordered a copy and should be here this week. he's hoping that SL will fix his playback problem, I'll be very impressed if it does. Do you SL users think it will?

Ugh. Battery life still sucks on both Macs (MBP and 2008 MB) after calibration.

Seems like it is already an issue on the Apple Discussion and Mac Rumors forums.

That right panel looks awful Zune-y. Is that real or part of the 'shop?

I had more respect for gizmodo, but after seeing that the author wasn't smart enough to resize some of the images disappoints me. image fail.

Some of them were quite funny though.

Ars Technica has a really thorough review of the under the hood changes in SL. It's really long (23 pages) but I'm gonna try to read all of it.

Plugged in my iPhone for the first time since upgrading to SL (clean install) and now iTunes doesn't recognize my phone... iPhoto does though. Do I need to do a erase all content/settings on my iPhone to get it to work (I really don't want to do this since I don't have a back up)... this bites.

I wouldn't change anything on your phone since you know that isn't the problem. Can you uninstall and reinstall iTunes?

+1

Just reinstall iTunes. Also won't hurt to repair permissions afterwards.

^ Thanks a lot, fellas. Deleting and reinstalling iTunes worked like a charm. I still don't understand what could have caused that though (I did change my iTunes icon but that shouldn't have done anything could it?). Thanks again!

It was the upgrade process. Upgrades usually suck and people choose to do a clean install instead.

Yep, clean install... I did touch the permissions/settings for iTunes but reverted it back to norm when the iPhone wasn't syncing. Just glad I didn't have to erase my iPhone contents.

Two of my 3 computers upgraded so far. No bugs as of yet. Minor changes...nothing out right noticeable.

All in all, worth the 10 bucks spent.

I picked up a MPB today at the campus bookstore, and was surprised that a copy of the SL DVD is bundled with it... Didn't even have to spend the $10!

That's how they handle hardware purchases after the launch of a new O.S. until they change their assembly program to install the new O.S. and so that existing, on-the-shelf hardware purchasers get the updated O.S. as well.

Only people who bought Apple Computers before the launch of the O.S. within a certain time frame are charged the $10.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you didn't get any special deal or anything.

When Apple bundles the new OS disc with the new machines, does it include iLife? I know if you buy an off the shelf upgrade disc and do a clean install, you have to go back and manually reinstall iLife from the disc that originally came bundled with your machine.

I picked up a new iMac in May(maybe June) and am going to upgrade just as soon as I have time to get to the local Apple store and pick a copy up. The question I have is, are these Snow Leopard discs like the Install discs that come with the computer that are assigned to only one machine? The reason I ask is because I need to build a portable machine and I don't want to pay(nor do I need) something like a Macbook Pro, I want a netbook just for surfing the web, email and IM while away from my main machine and I am interested in putting the new OS X on a Dell Mini or Asus Netbook. Anyone have experience doing this or know if, theoretically, I can use Snow Leopard on both computers?

It's not hardware dependent, you can use it on any machine.

In regards to iLife. iLife comes installed with all new Mac purchases so when cuz boots his computer he'll have iLife on his leopard install and when he upgrades to Snow Leopard iLife will still be there.

If he has a brand new machine that he hasn't done anything with, why would he not do a clean install of Snow Leopard? If he does, and the SL disc he received is the same as an off the shelf SL disc, then he most definitely is going to lose his iLife apps and need to reinstall them from the Leopard disc that came with his machine.

By the way, when was iLife included standard with the O.S.? Was it included with panther or leopard? My MBP came with Panther installed, I have the Leopard disc and will now be installing SL.

It's not included with the OS, it's included with a new Mac. If you buy an OS disc it won't have iLife but if you buy a new mac it will. If his mac came with an iLife disc then I'd do the clean install otherwise I'd stick with an upgrade install.
