Question Laptop/Notebook Bags - need suggestions

I just ordered my laptop yesterday and need to start looking for a good bag to carry it in.

I prefer the messenger type bags, but i'm not opposed to the backpack style.

Any suggestions on brands? styles? where to buy from?

I carry around mine in my backpack. Since it's silver, a lot of scratches have appeared on the casing. (mainly because I carry a lot of other crap in there). You should maybe look into one of those cases that will kind of act like spandex on your laptop as added protection.

Anyhow, I got a lappy case off of ebay it was around $30 -- Dell branded and made of nylon. It's not to shabby, but the only pain in the ass is putting in the AC adapter. It makes it bulge a little bit which is annoying as hell.

^^Also I might add the one pictured above looks pretty good. Those "flap style" ones are pretty good. No zipping involved.

Right now whenever I have to carry my wifes laptop I use either my gap messenger bag, or my adidas laptop, but they don't have compartments so it gets scratched up

I'll look into the Dell bags.

side note, when I went to Adobe MAX this past october, the Adobe personnel had this Adobe branded bags that were freakin awesome for laptops. I tried to find out where they got them but no one had any info.

I should have specified the type of laptop I bought.

it's a hp dv9000T with a 17" widescreen display. 15.16" (L) x 11.65" (W) x 1.57"

It's hard finding a bag that can holder a large laptop

While I only have a soft case from Timbuk2, a few of my friends have their side bags and are really happy with them.

First one I found, I know there are others as well.

i have a tumi messenger bag. it came with a sleeve to place the laptop in. but it'll fit a 15"...too small for 17".

but the tumi's served well. i've had it for over a year now. haven't had any problems with the bag or computer.

I've always like TUMI bags, just couldn't dish out that much cash for the bag.

Like the powerpack bag above that I posted, they are only making 500 of those so they aren't mainstraeam which is kinda cool, but even so, $700 is just crazy.

I have a 17" laptop as well and I bought a Targus bag. I really like the features it has.

As much as the name reeks of "el-cheapo" I have a Kensington bag that I've been pretty happy with. Plenty of room for my 15" Macbook Pro, a small book, 3-4 magazines, cell phone, pens, so forth. They've since upgraded the bags from the one I have. The closest current model that would probably fit your needs is the Contour Pro 17" .

I hear ya on the name. I used to think the same about Targus, but they actually make some very decent stuff.

The contour Pro looks good, i'll add it to my list of possibles.

Thanx

I've always owned their sleeves for my Apple laptops. They're wonderful. And made in the U.S.A. too.

Travelpro makes some bags that will hold a laptop, including ones of some substantive size. Travelpro has several quality lines, but their core business was in making travel carryon luggage for pilots and other airline crews. Their stuff is not expensive, very durable and in my experience, wears like Iron.

I have a ton of Tumi stuff for travel as well, and their stuff is great, but very, very pricy. In the long run, I think they're beginning to trade on their reputation, and I wonder if their current line is worth the extravagent cost of their stuff.

I ended up going with a Booq bag (http://www.booqbags.com)

I went with the Boa XL

http://booqbags.com/s.nl/it.A/id.52/.f

Looks to be very spacious which is what I need for my books and laptop.

I wanted to find a nice messenger bag but didn't find one that I liked, also the duma bag from chromebags.com looked pretty good.

thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Thanx,

I get it on monday, can't wait to see how mcuh stuff it can really hold.

Side Note: lately, i've made it habit to always look for coupon codes before placing an order anywhere on the net. I found a 10% off coupon for booq. Saved about $17 which helps. From now on, I'm always lookin for a coupon code before I submit any order.

Yea, I haven't done the google checkout thing yet, and even still, is the $10 off a one time thing with all of them for when you use it for the first time??

I have a messenger style bag from Brenthaven. It's been around the world a few times over the last year and has held up nicely.

My dog ate the shoulder strap and the company mailed me a new one for free when I aske how to buy a replacement.

http://www.brenthaven.com/

I have this one in blue http://www.brenthaven.com/catalog-fusion-black.html

well...

it's only good for first time users. but people have been known to create multiple accounts to use it more than once.

it's only available for certain online stores. but there's a nice variety. i've used it for some dvd's from dvdplanet.com.
