Laptop has a wierd quirk when typing email...

so, I will be typing a email and all of a sudden, it will jump backwards and start typing from there. So I have to delete the last few letters and find the end of the text to continue.

I cannot find what I am doing wrong. I conciously keep my palm off the laptop when typing and it still happens.

Does anyone have a clue why this is?

Thanks.

My old laptop used to do that as well.

I was never able to figure out why either.

Does it jump to random lines(up or down) or does it stay in the same line you are typing and you just have to go to the end of that line?

This happens w/me sometimes when a thumb grazes the touchpad, which can highlight a word and create insertion point while I'm typing. Control-Z FTW.

Is there a touchpad pointing device below the spacebar? Lots of folks hit those with their thumbs accidentially when they type - there are sensitivity settings you can jack up to avoid it.

If you press ctrl and the left arrow it will move the cursor back to the beginning of the previous word. I would guess that you are accidentally using this combination or inadvertently moving the cursor with the touchpad (Dells are notorious for this).

The problem I always have is bumping the trackpad when pressing the space bar.

Edit: You should be able to turn on an option that ignores mouse input when typing.

Yup, you're hitting the touch pad barely. It's annoying as fuck.

I can't figure out how to disable mine as I use a mouse.

Vista OS: Control panel/mouse/tapping > check box to disable tapping while typing.
