Laptop Experts Advice Needed

Im looking for a laptop with no limit moneywise. I need the best one available. I want it loaded and prefferably lightweight. I am not stuck on any brand in particular, just the absolute best available!! Any advice or suggestion would be much appreciated. I am not too familiar with laptops unfortyunately. I know they have come a long way recently, and I am way behind the times. Thanks in advance

just buy a fully loaded one, and when it gets shipped from UPS, pretend it never arrives.

No point in getting the absolute best available right now cuz it won't be the best available in three months. Just get something that suits your needs. The "best" in computers will never really be "the best"...so it's a waste to throw in a massive amount of money on the newest and coolest til something new comes out and the price drops.

I totally understood his question. Was just stating that *I* think you're safer just buying something that'll suit your needs rather than not having a budget at all and getting the best of the best at the time.....cuz the best now won't be the best in three months, and it'll even be $400 cheaper when something new comes around. So might as well go for what you need, rather than what is newest/most expensive at the time. You can never have the best for more than a few months. Might as well get what is useful for you at the time and in the near future. Upgrades'll pretty much be guaranteed as technology advances....so you'll just have to continue throwing in more money. So don't spend it all now...you'll most definitely need to upgrade again soon anyway.

i also vote stay away from hp

and also, as stated, stay away from the absolute high end cause the depreciation is so high its sickening, where the preformance that you get from a system $1g cheaper might be 90% of the high end system, which will be worth nothing in a year anyway.

anyway, it is my (semi-professional) oppinion that all laptops suck

but if your hell bent on getting one, stick with dell/ibm/apple

Stay away from Dell and HP, both are poorly made.

I have an Alienware, the older models were poorly made as well, the newer ones with magnesium cases are far better.

VoodooPC might be a good choice, since you said money is not a concern.

Despite what some may think ... I do believe Dell makes a good laptop -- not the best, but probably some of the most bang for the buck. I have 3 Dell laptops (2 x Inspiron 600m + Inspiron 6000d).

If money is no concern for you -- splurge on higher end models from IBM or Sony if you want a PC/Windows based system. It's compatible with everything and software is abundant. Otherwise your other option is a Mac.

If I had more balls (and more access to warez) then I would go this route. (MAC) Looking at all the goodies at the Apple Store makes me want to get one. But that would alienate me with all the software I have. Sure there's a mac-equivalent to whatever I'm using, I don't wanna be stuck with something I don't have full support on.

Good luck on your search. Tell us what you come up with!

if you want the best laptop on the market, buy a powerbook.

nothing else comes close, no need to even have these silly round and round discussions.

buy a 1.67 15, or 17" powerbook, and you won't look back.

Definitely agree Mac is the way to go! Problem is, it's a graduation gift, and she's expressed discomfort with the apple software. She does not want a mac.

Either way, discount money as the factor, I'm not looking to waste all my money, just didn't want to taint the responses through worrying about finances. Just looking for the best brand out there. I've heard pretty consistent high remarks about sony and I'm thinking that may be the one! My girlfriend has a dell and she's been miserable with it for three years! Don't want to do that.

Keep posting!!!

Interesting that no one appears to be for ThinkPads any more.

They're not for everyone, but they certainly have their place in the market.
