laptop battery help

Ok, long story short, the battery on my Dell laptop stopped working. The Dell repairman had to come out and fix something else, and he looked at it, and said that it was the battery, not covered under warranty, and just get a new battery. I got new battery, and here's where the problem starts. If I look at the lower righthand corner of my screen, I don't see any icon showing that I am hooked up to AC or battery power. Last night when I first put the new battery in, I could check under my control panel and it would show battery 1 (charging) at X% charged. Today, its not showing it at all. Please help me so I don't have to call Dell and sit on the phone with them for an hour!!!

First off, what model is it. Second... Do you have a full charge? Are you using a docking station?

Insprion 8600. The battery was fully charged as of last night, but still didnt work. Now its not reading a battery at all, and I have to use the power cord. Its not part of the battery recall and I dont have warranty anymore, so Dell is of no use unless I want to pay

No no no, please don't tell me that! When the Dell repairman came, he replaced my motherboard, and ran some sort of check on the battery. I don't remember exactly what he said, but he said that it was the battery, and that wasn't covered under warranty and I needed to replace the battery only, and I was good to go.

I think he's just joking. Try to re-seat the battery- Take it out a and put it back in again. Make sure that you turn the laptop off first.

I hope he was joking. And with taking the battery out and re-seating it. If that doesn't work, contact the place you bought the battery from and have them check it.
