As crazy as that seems for personal use, that would be a kick ass rig if you have to demo software on a regular basis.

That's not a laptop...that's a battlestation.

Wow...Kinda defeats the point of a laptop IMO...sure, it's "mobile"...but, it's as mobile as say packing up your PS2 and 15" LCD too. It's neat...but, I would never get it.

It's a mobile desktop. I don't think it has a battery.

That was the first thing I thought of when I read about it yesterday.

But it won't be taking the place of a 17" Powerbook on my desk at home anytime soon.

Many companies have tried to make stuff like that since the dawn of the PC. All have failed. There was even a "portable" Commodore.

Brilliant, Einstein. They are called laptops.

Down the road, a 3.5lb laptop will probably be able to have the same processing power as that XPS. So, yeah. Good call.

Hell, my 6lb laptop (Acer Travelmate 8000) is quite slim, plays high-end games with good speed...?

The idea about using it for demoing and such is a good idea.

I can buy a 20" imac, wireless keyboard/mouse, and a pelican case with wheels for travel and come out cheaper then that.

No, I am not talking about laptops.

What I meant to say is that your in home desktop will have the ability to be transported to a different location without much fuss.

What you see above is where the desktop technology is headed towards.

Small and movable.

"small" would essentially make it a non-desktop.

these days, the only thing that makes a desktop a "desktop" is screen size. a desktop is 20"+.

anything smaller ya may as well be on a laptop...

I love it when people add in there two cents and then the tech-sharks come in and throw their hopes of a reasonable argument out the window

smaller in size but not fit to be carried around everywhere. I wouldn't use the word laptop to address them.

I am not necessarily disagreeing with anyone, I am more or less stating that what we have known as a common desktop is getting smaller so it is more portable, and easy to handle.

If I still worked for Dell and gave a flip about the PC vs Mac battle, I would have asked....

"Does this mean we will see one on your desk?"

Go to www.apple.com

hit Store then go to the bottom right corner and click on education...It will take into the education store and let you build one with the discount price.

Its not huge, but its something.

I bought both my powerbooks and my parents g5 tower with the education discount...how I can get away with still using is beyond me but I wont tell if they dont ask My dad bought my mom's powerbook with their military program, and my girlfriend is a teacher....im hoping she finally caves and gets a macbook soon.

I use an IBM Thinkpad X series laptop, it weighs 2.78lbs great for travel and data center usage.

Now, for demos for our sales department that laptop would be pimp.
