Cheap Laptop for Internet?

Alright,

I know computer threads have been done to death but a lot of you guys are some serious tech nerds and can help those that are slightly tech challenged.

We just moved into a new place and have a desktop and broadband in place. We want to go ahead and get a wireless router and a laptop to compliment it. The laptop would be only used for internet access (any real gaming or work would be done on the desktop).

So as I have been looking I see a lot of different wireless stuff (wifi, 802.11?) etc. So what exactly do I need to make my broadband wireless?

And anyone know a good site to get a cheap laptop (preferrably new). Is dell/HP etc probably the best bet? I have been checking out slickdeals.net, any other sites like that I should be perusing?

FYI we are overseas so there are no best buys or anything to look for deals in.

Thanks for any help guys.

keep an eye out on slickdeals.net. You'll get your best bang for your buck on a deal posted there.

Would've thought someone else in the UK might have realized that there isn't a Staples on every corner here!

The best thing to do, we have done it for some of our co-workers in other countries.

They give us the money. Someone buys it here. opens it up and then ships it to you.

Now used hardware.

oh... I was going to say Dell. They had a laptop pretty loaded for us$650, and a stripped one for us$499. Both use Core 2 Duo.

North Yorkshire.

Well have checked Tiger direct and slickdeals.

Seems like slickdeals would get me a good deal on a higher end Laptop and tiger direct I can't really find anything.

Looked at Dell and they have a laptop for 539 with 512 ram, 40 gb and wireless. Seems like a pretty good deal. I have an APO address so they will ship to that.

Thanks for the help guys. Hey what type of wireless should I make sure I get? I know there are some different standards now, are they all compatible
