= ripoff.

Question, can I just buy one unlocked or via a Hardware upgrade from Rogers and stick my Sim card in like I've done with other phones. I have no use for a data plan or text messages so a specific iphone plan is useless to me anyway. I'd like to keep my $25 monthly plan. All I want it for is the phone, WiFi and music/vid.

I was going to upgrade from my 1g Iphone, but at these rates I'll wait till they realize they can't sell them and prices change to reflect it.

Sign the petition too, http://www.ruinediphone.com/ so far 33,356 have signed.

Also sign bill C-555 to get rid of SAF fees. http://www.davidmcguinty.com/english...s_d_acces.html

You should be able to run one unlocked, but there is a tether unbrick they do at the store, I'm not sure how things will work but the phone will probably cost about 600 free of a 3-year term.

Another reason I want to keep my plan. My contract is nearly 10 years old and doesn't have that access fee applied. So long as I keep renewing and don't change the contract, I won't pay it.

I've been with the same carrier about 10 years, when I want things I call and talk to retentions and complain about how other companies have better rates and they match.

My 1G works fine on Fido, but I have not been using data because they changed their policy about none Fido phones. And of course visual voicemail does not work either. I've had my 1G since september and have had no issues SG81 has no idea what he's talking about.

Its a first generation computer that is masquerading as a phone. Some people have one with some problems. Some people are stupid and cause the problems and blame them on the phone. Hell, I had to mine replaced the other week because a spot on the screen stopped being touch sensitive...I owned it from day 1.

But, its a machine and not every single one will be perfect...but of the few I know who had any such issues. They were all minor and apple solved the issue or replaced the phone in store on the spot.

Phones like the Treos are the phones that have the real problems. But its the internet and rumors fly abundant and people like to talk out of their ass sideways, so

I want to get one but the only way I'll be willing to pay for it is if it's unlocked and I get the dirt-cheap voice-only plan.

I just need to switch to Rogers now and convince them to give me such a plan. The cheapest advertised plan they have ($25/month) is still too much. I pay about $30/month right now with Telus including taxes, BS fees and everything. Need to call Rogers and get them to beat that... Then get an unlocked phone off eBay or something.

Wifi, music Video....

Anyway, reason for the bump.

Surprisingly, Rogers listened and lowered pricing. At least until Aug 31.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0...phone_canada_2

The $30 monthly fee for data applies to a three-year contract for customers who activate their iPhones by Aug. 31.

The data plan rate is for Web browsing, emails and video.

Rogers says the six-gigabyte data plan will allow users to visit 36,000 Web pages, send or receive more than 157,000 emails or watch almost 6,300 minutes of YouTube videos each month
I don't use 6 Gig a month at home so that sounds good.

I think the 6gig deal is enough to make the jump, I'll probably be calling retentions soon.
Plus I have 100 Fido dollars so the handset cost wont be to bad.

Just clarying....so you'd have to pay the $30/month total, or is that on top of another $xx/month?

Its on top of a voice plan, or another smartphone plan...I think the plan has to be a minimum of $30 and a "currrent market plan"...meaning some plan that is currently offered on the Rogers website...so if you have a retention plan you might be outta luck

Oh yeah and if you go the 6GB route, they take out some of the iphone plan options like visual voicemail, caller display etc etc

Its still better than what they were offering before, but I'm still not 100% sold on the whole locking in for 3 years at that rate

Errmm, yeah, my plan is $17.30/mo for all the features (call display, etc), and enough minutes for my needs, free evenings after 6pm, and free weekends. No way I'd pay $30 PLUS $xx per month. I don't use my phone enough to justify that kind of monthly expense. Just checking - thanks for the info - that's how I understood it originally as well.

i've been reading a few rogers forums this morning and i'm hearing something along the lines of you can get the iphone on any plan you want (no data req'd) as long as its at least $30. the only thing is you have to pay an extra $50 on top of the iphone cost (so $250 for the 8gig and $350 for the 16 gig)

i'm gonna call them soon and see if this is true, if it is i will most likely go for it

Thanks for the info.

What about existing customers? I pay $25 a month. So I can upgrade to an iPhone for $250 or $350 by extending my contract another 3 years and adding $5 to my monthly bill?

okay well i just called the customer service rep and this is what he told me:

"you can get the 199/299 price point on any plan you want (including voice ONLY)...and that the iphone plans are just suggested to get the best bang for your buck, but you can keep your current plan"

now i'm probably gonna call back a few times to double check this because i dont want to look like an idiot at the store tomorrow morning. but still while this is good news im really suspect of what he was saying

he also told me im on the top tier of the hardward upgrades so i will probably get a discount on the price point

sounds too good to be rogers lol ... does anyone else want to call in and report what they find out?

If it sounds to good to be true......

I'd definitely call back for a second opinion. I've been screwed around by rogers before. They once told me my wife could piggy back off my plan for an extra $10 a month (share minutes) So when I called back to set it up they had no clue what I was talking about.

I'll try and call tonight.

I usually order my hardware upgrades directly from Rogers. Is that not possible with the iphone?

The way the guy was talking was basically saying that you can do that. He said it would be some time though because they are most likely to be back ordered

I'll be calling back once I get some time this afternoon, I'll post back here. I wonder if there is a way to hold them to what they say on the phone?

wow I just transfered my phone number from telus to rogers cuz this crap without a sim card is pissing me off and I cant use my phone in europe. So now I got a Samsung BlackJack and my plan is 70$ a month. 35I believe for a plan, 15 for data (must with a smartphone), 15 for textmessages, voicemail, email, other crap, and 7 charge monthly fee. now I will try to minimize monthly payments cuz my friend work at rogers so we'll see.

$70 is pushing it for that...try to get a basic voice plan and add that new 6GB data for $30 on top. IMO thats the best value if you have some decent data usage.

well looks like the rep i mentioned earlier was full of shit (almost) ... turns out according to this other rep that you can use a hardware upgrade to get the iphone and its $50 on top of the 199/299 price point...going this route allows you to keep the iphone on your current plan (voice only if you wish)

this is only applicable if your in a certain "tier" of their customers and is not avaliable for new customers who must purchase a data plan in order to obtain the iphone at the 199/299 pricing.

rogers on the whole is incompetent though, i asked this guy what one will i get in an upgrade for 250 and he told me the 3GB iphone :wtf: ... he had to check his files and then told me that yeah its the 8GB, but according to him they are coming out with a 3GB in the near future

he also tried to give me a lecture on how i will get a huge bill if i dont get data and he even said if i use my home wifi it will somehow go through rogers and i will get a heavy surprise on my monthly bill haha

has anyone else called to verify this information?

im only leaning towards the 199/299 iphone + 3 years vs the ebay route because at least rogers might cover it if it busts up early or something along those lines

they're also trying to pass a bill here that will make it illegal to use an unlocked phone or sell/use software that does that

hopefully they dont sell out right away since i still have to take a few days to think about what plan i want to sign on with

My original corporate plan was $20 per month for:

* No activation fee
* 200 Anytime Mins
* Free evenings starting at 6pm (some start at 7 or 9?)
* Free weekends (so 6pm Friday until 7am Monday)
* Call Display
* Call Waiting
* Voicemail
* Call Forwarding
* Conference Calling
* Anything else I'm forgetting

I added onto that $2/mo for xx text msgs

My contract was up at the beginning of February. They texted me with this new offer, which was essentially everything I had originally, except it was down to $17.30/month now instead. Actually, I don't know if it included voice mail...either way, they waived the fee on that cuz I have it included again too.

It took me til now to find a phone and renew the contract instead of going month-to-month. So I signed up with the cheaper plan and dropped the $2 charge for text messages (I don't use it as much anymore, so it'll be cheaper to pay per use on those now).

Keep in mind I don't use my phone a lot, so this plan works very well for me. I don't need any more minutes than what is already included in my plan.

What is "Who Called"?

My evenings/weekends are unlimited as well. Isn't Telus the only carrier to have unlimited data usage? I don't even know if this is true, but heard them mentioning it when I was looking at phones in the store. Have you been happy with Rogers?

Who called is a feature that tells you who has tried to call you when your phone was off/in an area with no service...without that you would never know if you had a missed call

On a different note, did anyone pick up the iphone? I'm stuck at work so hopefully they have some left over by the weekend
