iPhone 3g charging problem

First I want to say that there is no way in hell apple would replace my phone, my warranty is void since my phone went through the washer and this is why i have this problem.

My iPhone works perfectly besides not charging, battery life is full right now, first time it's been on since i put it through the wash a few weeks ago. Plugged it into a dock and it recognizes it and plays music but will not charge. Will not sync with my computer either. Anything I can do to try and fix this myself or am i SOL?

This sounds odd, if it's syncing/connecting it should be charging. What is the indicator that it's not charging?

It does not sync, basically the USB cable does nothing whether it's in the wall or computer. I have a firewire wall charger from my old ipod that I plugged into the wall and it said "not compatable with iphone, charging not supported." Also get this message when it's hooked up to any dock.

Have you tried cleaning the charging port on the phone. Take some isopropyl alcohol or contact cleaner and try cleaning the contacts on the phone. I have no clue what the charging port looks like but maybe you can get in there with a qtip of something.

Sounds like the contact that supplies power isn't getting a good connection.

If I remember correctly firewire cables don't charge the iPhone. If you lost the original 2.0 USB cable and have an Apple store nearby you can try going in and checking if it charges it on the docks on display

I've tried both the USB cable and firewire cable, water sensors are tripped so can't return it. I'll try cleaning out the port. Went to the at&t store to try their docks and they will not charge it, recognizes it but says unable to charge using this device.

Sounds like your flex cable is fried. I have the first iPhone and it won't charge except with a higher volt iPod charger. Everything I have read points to this problem

The cable is only 20 bucks but really really hard to replace.

do they make a higher volt cable for the USB port so I can sync it? If I can't sync then it's worthless to me really, i need my music.

Mine stopped charging for no reason, called Apple they had me wipe & restore and it was fine.

They did say if that did not fix it to take it to an Apple store for replacement but since it worked I didn't.

Wipe and restore using a computer or via the phone itself? Can't sync with my computer but i'll see if doing it on the phone does anything.

You can't wipe and restore via the phone itself. You need to do it in iTunes on your computer.
