Yeah just have to partition the drive. Use something like partition magic so you don't have to FDisk.

Well first of all being that you have a notebook, you will have to do everything on one drive. That being said, you'll have to split the drive into two seperate partitions. This can be done in two ways.

1. FDisk, create two partitions, re-install Xp on first partition, then install redhat on second. By doing this you'll loose ALL information on your HD.

2. Use a program such as partition magic which runs in windows to create a second partition for redhat, then throw in the redhat disk and install. You will not loose any info on your drive.

Either way you go make make sure XP is on the first partition, its kinda picky about being second. Hpoe this helps, Ask if you have more questions.

Yeah, you wouldn't be able to use an external HD via USB or Firewire cause there is no way of booting from these devices(at least none that I'm aware of, posibilly newer BIOS can see them but I don't think so). If you don't want to loose any data then buy/download that software and change your partition size. BTW, how big is your HD?

If you want to buy it, here is more info http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/
I would try other ways to get it first before buying though.

There is another option that works real well but is a little expensive. There is a product called VMWARE (http://www.vmware.com) that allows you to have as many "virtual machines" as you want on your laptop. I've used it for years to have both 2000 Pro and Linux running AT THE SAME TIME. Vmware acts as a program under windows that runs the linux OS (or anyother OS you want) and translates the systems calls to the windows OS. This allows you to share networking and other things easily. If you really plan to use both significantly, I would highly recommend this product. I have no affiliation with VMWARE I am just a very satisfied customer.
