i'm switching to ATT... I don't know jack about phone

cdma/gsm means nothing to me. Are there any phones that I should stay away from? They seem to have a pretty good selection of phones. I'm leaning towards the T721, V60i or erricson t616.

ANY input is appreciated.

went with the
T721 and the t616.

killer deal.

both phones for a total of $49.99

shared plan.

-$50 (credit for adding a second line)
-$375 in phone rebates (instant).
plus free activation

550 min plan with 250 minutes added for 4 months (will upgrade after that, plus 1000 m2m) -national shared
$39.99 for the plan
$9.99 for second line (free for 3 months)

I'm sure ATT will hose something up so i printed each page thoughout the entire process.

nope the v60 is analog and digital. try the gsm phones out in the usual areas compared to what u have.
now one thing about att is that there is not going to be a buildout of tdma towers and havent been since this time last year. if you have a dead spot now with either system it will be filled in with gsm if they are planning to cover that area

I'm in ny (long island) and i have gsm ATT...imo, the service has improved vastly since i got my nokia 6800 in late july...also, my phone is only a dual band gsm and not a tri-band one

when i 1st got the phone there were a few places i couldnt receive any service in, but now most of these places work fine...i may get the 6820 when it comes out tho...lighter, has a camera and is tri-band

i'm still unsure of how gsm affects me. so att is now using gsm... are the phones that I picked gsm or tdma? and what's the downside about hitting a Cingular or tmo tower?

gsm is just a newer technology which means less coverage nationwide and locally, until new towers are put up, or the existing older technology towers are replaced. You can tell if the phone is gsm by looking under the battery and see if you can locate a SIM card. (small chip in the phone probably says At&t on it).

If at&t doesnt have roaming agreements (with cingular or tmobile) in your area and you use one of their towers you might Roam.

triband wont make a difference...i believe at&t uses 850 and 1900 mhz in the US...and only those two frequencies. 900 is a worldwide band....so if you travel internationally it will work, but will cost a pretty penny.
