Help, my computer sound isn't working correctly

So recently one of the channels on my 2.1 went bad, but that's another topic (in Home Theater & Electronics)

so while I was trying to figure out if I could fix it or find out what was going on with it, I found some sound settings in control panel. It turns out you can adjust your sampling rate for playback. The default setting for my computer was 16 bit, 44000 Hz (CD Qualiity) which it turns out, is the lowest setting for my computer. So I set it at the highest - 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality) expecting drastically improved audio quality

I started listening to iTunes and I didn't notice a difference at all. Hm. Later went to watch stuff on Youtube and not a single sound came out of my speakers. what's going on?!?! now I feel like a dumbass

You have two choices:

1. Go buy a new set of speakers and try them to see if it's the speakers or the computer, or

2. enjoy this thread as everyone posts redonkulous things that are broken, like your Hertz Capacitor, or your 24 bit bus, or the analogue to analogue converter stream bypass filter.

You won't. You can't change the sampling rate of the source material, so that's the limiting factor. If you make your own audio files, you'd have to encode them at 24/192k to hear the difference when you play them back at 24/192k (and believe me, there is an easily audible difference..down side is they take up more disk space).

Does it work if you set it back to 16/44k?

I loled so loud at analog to analog converter!!!

Why can't you just set it back to 44.1/16?

Jokes aside, 192khz is for DVD audio or something similar in quality. Otherwise you're just screwing up your sound or possibly wasting computer resources.

44.1/16 is CD quality. 192/24 is dvd-audio quality. Most sounds on the interweb and MP3s are 44.1/16 or less.

Throw your computer out the window and get a new one.

I think this thread made me look dumber than I actually am

Of course I tried setting it back to the default setting... still no luck. I also switched the speakers outputs from left speaker to right channel and vice versa and afterwards it was the right speaker that worked and the left speaker that was silent (the opposite of before). So the right speaker is still good after all

edit: I restarted the computer and it worked again usually I do something that simple but it just went over my head. Anyways, the right channel still doesn't work
