Help! McAfee on XP Pro on a work computer.
I have a couple of programs that will not work (blocked) and I am thinking it is to do with McAfee virus software on my computer. I called Tech Support on the software and they could not help. I can launch the Program on my Personal computer but the not work computer. Same for a couple of other links. I have called our Tech Support (they are in the a certain Country) and they cannot help. They keep bouncing me to the Software Tech support.
I cannot see if I can disable McAfee. I right clicked on McAfee (Property) and see General/Sharing/Security/Customize. No quick tab to disable.
I do not want to do too much incase I disable the whole computer. That would be bad.
Happy 4th.

McAfee is the suck.
Add/Remove programs>Remove McAfee
(a better alternative would be to download a program like REVO uninstaller to really remove McAfee - http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html Free version is fine)
Download MSE or AVG and use it instead if you are allowed (?work computer?).

If it's McAfee Antivirus, you should be able to right-click on the
icon on the lower right corner, and select exit.
If it's McAfee Security Center or Internet Security, double click the
icon, click on advanced menu tab, select Configure, select Computer & Files, and select Disable from there... or just follow this .gif

McAfee can die in a fire! They are on the same level as DHL to me.

Using Sysinternals Process Explorer you can "Suspend" various McAfee services - temporarily
disables them without violating corporate policies
(Well at least corporate can't tell. The suspended processes still show as active in the process
table, they just don't get any CPU cycles. So even if corporate has installed Altiris "spyware"
it won't rat you out
)
I suspend "scan32" most of the time because our dopey IT dept has full disk scans scheduled
for lunchtime. With a 500 GB disk in my laptop that only takes ... the rest of the day!
You might want to try suspending various McAfee services and see if it helps.

Try this for further investigation:
1) Right-click the VShield icon and open the Virus Scan Console
2) In the Virus Scan Console, right-click -> properties on the Access Protection item. You should get this screen.

Click on any of the rules in the right pane and click edit to get more detailed information about what they're doing. This will include the names of processes that they are including or excluding.

NOTE: Any or all of the functionality can be locked out by your admins.

If it's work related, get your IT department to take care of it. If it's not, you'll be putting your job on the line if anything happens.
