HDTV non HDTV, LCD, CRT, what to do!
Okay,
In about 8 months I will be moving into an apartment and would like to get a television.
Here are my concerns and thoughts:
I would like to get a widescreen hdtv lcd 30" but I have heard they last 50,000 hours which is about how many years? Also my concern is with the quality of hdtv lcds on standard or digital cable. I hear hdtv televisions using standard or digital cable looks really shitty. Currently cox cable offers like 4-5 channels on hdtv so almost all the time I would be watching digital or standard cable. Therefore is it really worth buying an hdtv in 8 months, how long should it be until almost all the channels down here in Florida are hdtv.
Next should I buy a 30" lcd or a 42" rear projection tv, space isnt a issue.
Also I saw a 32" CRT 4:3 HDTV for $398.88
Im not sure whether I should get HDTV because of the usual shitty quality when watchin standard or digital cable, what are everyone's thoughts? Thank you.

Price range is going to be about $900 in 8 months, I will only get HD channels if it is cheap, but i dont want to lose to much quality for digital cable reception because HD channels on the cox boxes are not many. I will invest in HD-DVD when its cheaper and I dont know what blu-ray is. Also I will keep it for a minimum of 3 years.

Look in to a 32" - 36" sony.
Something like:

HD-ready means if you feed it an HD signal you will have HD. Its a nice szie screen, its a sony, it'll last you your 3 years.....or more if you need it.

my opinion, GET HD or at least HD-capable. Sure right now it's a luxury, but in 2007 (?) all broadcast networks will be brought to you in HD by law,so it's pay now or pay later basically from what I know.

And I've only seen one LCD tv a 30" Sharp Aqous with a digital cable feed. It looked like shit. But I dont know how it was set up, and have not seen anyother on LCD.
YOu want to know how digital look like on a tube....same as it would on a non hd tube. pending however good the signal is from you r local cable comapny.

From the article linked: Although many consumers equate digital television with HDTV, there is no guarantee broadcasters and cable companies will make HDTV widely available after the switch to digital.

Costco has a Philips 30" HDTV "ready" TV widescreen for $649, I had that TV, I loved it... but after less than a year... I wanted to move up... so I bought the Samsung DLP 50" Pedistal TV... and needless to say... I love it too... even more! So, I just took my Philips back to Costco... made up some excuse, and got all my money back!!! (that's the benefit of buying from Costco... in case you didn't know... they don't offer an extended warranty, you just take it back, preferrably with a receipt, cause if you don't have one... they'll give you back the lowest price point... sometimes they do mark merchandise down... and that'd be what you get back)
CLICK HERE to see the TV from Best Buy, it's going for $800 there but again it's only $649 at Costco with the killer return policy...
...yeah, once you go HD... it's really hard to watch anything with less quality... I don't even watch MTV or Vh1 anymore cause they don't come in HD...
...good luck, and let us know what you decide on...

I'd wait a little longer and get the TV you really want... luckily, my first decision was from Costco... otherwise, I'd be stuck with it...
