Got myself a Smartphone! VZW XV6800!
Got myself a Smartphone! VZW XV6800!
I just got an XV6800 from Verizon Wireless! It is running Windows Mobile 6 Pro.Mainly got it so I can keep track of stuff using the calendar which I can sync to Outlook.
I also figured that since Windows CE has been out so long, there must be a ton of stuff for it.

I have a Holux Bluetooth GPS receiver already, what would be the best software to use for navigation?
Any recommendations on other good apps (utilities, productivity, games, etc.) to load on?
Anything special I should know about owning a WM6 Smartphone? I never had a Smartphone before, and the last PDA I had was a Compaq iPaq 3670 running Pocket PC 2000 (yes, that long ago...).
ive previously owned the Q, palm 700w, and planning on getting either the this, smt5800, or the soon to be released u940. the xv6800 looks real nice. but its kinda big huh? too bad vzw smartphones cant support their vcast/navi/tv. but all in all, uve got yourself a pretty good first smartphone.
and in terms of apps, ive only found myself downloading some word processors, alarm/timers and some free games. though i do love the loaded capabilities of a smartphone, i often to miss the simplicity of regular small phones..thats why i have 6 in my drawer right now =P

Check out the mogul thread and you may see somethings you like.
I think Google Maps is the way to go for GPS...
Informant 2007 is a great UI for contacts and calendars
The iGo bluetooth keyboard simply takes the phone to a whole 'nother level. I cannot recommend it enough.

I have had my 6800 since the end of December so here's what I have to say about it.
It too is my first Smartphone so I was excpeting a lot out of it and overall, it delivers. However, the vibrate feature on the phone is extremely annoying. In addition, the keypad dialing feature is a pain but easier to use than the voice commands which don't work well at all.
The WiFi has been a God send in ways that I never anticipated. I didn't get a data package so I can't comment on that, the Wifi is enough for me as I'm on a college campus and wifi signals are everywhere on campus.
I got a Seidio case for mine, it's hard plastic and is a great protection for the phone, I'd recommend it to anyone.
Overall, it's a great phone. I just downloaded Google Maps on it last night and it seems really cool but I'll have to play with it more to give a full review. Overall, it's a great phone! Good luck with yours.

Yeah, the phone is a little big, but not bad. SMT5800 didn't seem TOO much smaller.
Thanks bl^5, Google maps is great! I didn't even have to connect the phone to the computer to install it! I have not tried it yet with my BT adapter. I found a way that I can use the built in GPS, but I dont know if I want to do that yet...
Not sure if I would ever need that BT keyboard as the phone has a built in keyboard, and if I needed something bigger, I would probably use my laptop. Thanks for the idea though, I will keep it in mind.
I will look into that Informant program. Main reason I got a Smartphone was so I could Calendar. Is it alot better?
Sclass88, I will probably get a Ripoffs case. I just love the clip on those!

Ok, so here I am at the end of my first day using the device.
I am currently at 20% power left.
Question: I remember on my old iPaq, if the battery died, I would lose everything. Because everything ran in RAM, Documents, Programs, and everything would be gone. Everything (except my Contacts for some reason) would go back to factory default. Does the same hold true for the Smartphone?
If so, the phone has a removable battery, so if I were to remove it, is there a reserve battery that would keep the stuff in memory until I change the battery?
Thanks in advance!

How do you get a phone every 2-3 months? Do you pay full price for the phones?
I just came up on my 2 yr, so I was able to get the phone for $250 after discounts and rebates.
buy and resell. sometimes when i get bored or cheap, i buy used or semi broken phones and fix it to use or sell. its like folks with shoes or bags, i like having different/multiple phones.
Mltk53 - i think he's right, its like women with shoes. I cant seem to keep a phone more then a couple months. I have had blackberries along with weird phones bought in Hong Kong and currently have an iphone which im kinda tired of. I unlocked it for tmobile so it was cool for a bit, then i got tired of it so i torn it apart and put a black back on it to change it up and now im tired of it again
well, the unusual thing (I think) is that Mltk53 uses Verizon.
With T-Mobile and AT&T it is easy to switch phones because all you have to do is pop in your Sim card and your service and phone book are moved over.
With Verizon, you can transfer the ESN number on a web page, or you have to call it in. To transfer your phone book, I think now there is an app on Get It Now that can do it, but otherwise, you have to take it in to a Verizon Wireless store.

Go to operamini.com on your WM phone
BTW, I have the same phone but on Sprint (Mogul)
MD03CL-S,
Thanks for the link!
Opera Mini didn't work initially, but I was finally able to get it to work.
I had to install a Java Midlet Manager and was able to get it to work!
AZ looks great now!
