Google Drive Changes

Anyone else a Google Drive user?

Drive is EOL soon, replaced by Backup and Sync (home) or Drive File Stream (business).

I upgraded one machine to drive file stream and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get a shareable link to a file like I used to be able to in Drive...

Anyone know how?

Can you do it from the web interface? The school I work at uses G Suite and we are going to be using Drive File Stream in the coming weeks as Drive Sync is phased out. I figured it would be a good change since the computers I spec'ed and ordered last summer all had 128GB SSDs so saving space would be ideal.

Thread title is misleading. Drive is not going anywhere. It's the sync app if you backup from your computer that is changing. If all you do is work on Drive from your Chromebook, Chrome browser, or phone, you won't notice any changes.

Yeah that will be an issue if you can no longer share or collaborate on content in a folder. I have a group of friends and family that has access to a folder that I created on mine called recipes. We all have our devices sync new recipes we save to that folder so we can share family and personal recipes. It works great so I would hate to lose the functionality.

I think your recipe folder will be fine. I'd say the vast majority of casual users won't even notice a change.

Casual users will not notice much change, although they will have to install a new app and uninstall the old one (really google?).

For anyone using GSuite, it becomes more complicated. They REALLY push (nearly force) the Drive File Stream on GSuite users.

Currently there is NO way to simply get a shareable link from within explorer to a file/folder in your GDrive if you are using Drive File Stream, you have to access it via the web to get a share link.

I realized that, for my use purposes, I should be using Backup and Sync even though I use GSuite (only 1 user).

Backup and Sync is nearly identical in function to the old GDrive.

Something just happened, and I had to uninstall and re-install Backup and Sync on all my machines...

I suddenly lost the context menu option for Backup and Sync. No ability to get shareable links unless I went to the website...

Uninstall and re-install fixed it, but it happened on a W10 and multiple W7 machines at the same time.
