Fun with an M3 on the GSP!

Driving up to work today on the Garden State Parkway. It's after 12 so traffic is light, it's 90 degrees outside an my 9-3 wants to run. My opportunity comes right after the toll plaza. I pass a black 3.0CL, but the somewhat overweight gentleman driving is not up to it. Oh well. Ah. Another opportunity, an emerald green M3 zipping up the middle lane, coming on fast! He passes on my right. I drop down to 4 and the chase is on! We zig zag through the light traffic. He goes right, I go right, he goes left, I go left. At one point, he opens the M3 up and ZOOM! I drop down to 4,then 3 and step on it. The TURBO kicks in and I'm right beside him, at around 95mph. It felt good being able to at least keep up. That must have annoyed him a little. Had to get off my exit, so the fun ended but good way to start my day!

(Disclaimer: This account in no way endorses that a 9-3 can outrun, out maneuver, out class, out-anything a BMW M3. The reference to the Acura 3.0CL also was not in anyway a slight to an otherwise nice car. It was just nice being able to keep up and I had fun doing it. mmmkay? :cool

I hope not. Its pretty pointless to bash other cars for no good reason (w/ Ford being the exception )

I thought an m3 was a 318 with better leather seats and bigger tires. Am I missing something?
At least this is what my friend who has a z3 tells me.

Hmmmm. I could see why you would confuse the two. On a dark ,overcast night, from about fifty yards away heading in the opposite direction while listening to Bachman Turner Overdrive's Born to ride, you might easily confuse a 318 with an M3.

Not really sure. I'm not good at picking out model years (unless it's a SAAB) but I would guess 98-99.

The '96 thru '99 all looked the same. The '95 had a few minor differences cosmetically.

By the way, hunter green just doesn't fit an M3. Red, Dakar Yellow (MWSins), even black. Hunter Green belongs on a Dodge Grand Caravan, IMO. (I had H green on my last SAAB and while it is my fav. color, doesn't fit the image.)

Dude, did your friend used to take the "short" yellow bus to school? I have never heard anybody say something more retarded than that.

I have a 2001 9-3 SE 5 door. I haven't been able to find "magazine" times for this car. However, according to this site: http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/index.htm
a 1998 9-3 SE with 185bhp ran a 16.3. My '01 output is 205bhp with 209 ft-lbs torque starting at 2200rpms all the way through 4400 rpm's. I'm thinking low 15's or high 14's in the 1/4. I should take it to the track to really find out!

Oh, I disagree. A friend of mine has an M3 in green with tan leather. It looks slick, very classy.

Fords don't count. I bet 95 % of the BMW, Lexus, or Acura owners didn't even consider a Ford as an option

Considering he paid about $50k for his overprices beemer, he most likely had trouble finding the door on that short yellow bus! I thought he should have gotten a miata and modded it out (like Jens).

I know the bmw's are nice cars, but on the road I can't tell the difference between a real m3 vs a rebadged one, all the 3 series look the same. To be fair, can't tell the diff between a cl-p and cl-s when passing them on the highway, you have to see the wheels, or that tiny little red S on the back, or if the other person has their windows open you can drive real close to them and take a look at the seats.
I thought the 3 series were all too small on the inside, about the size of the integra. The 5 series are really nice, but just way too overpriced. They do offer a convertible, even the solara has a convertible. We need a type-s convertible!

There's no way in hell your Saab could keep up with an M3.

Just kidding
