Dude! My dell laptop won't start up ... need some help here.

Hey ... I have an Dell Inspiron 4150 which refuses to start-up (it's not a battery issue). It basically doesn't even show the OS screen. When I press the power button, I can hear the shit whirring but after about 5 seconds, it just shuts down. I'm pissed ... the fucker was working fine until this morning ... so I left for work without my usual dose of morning porn. So I'm cranky, irritable, and aggressively mounting female interns.

Did my CPU conk out? Any recommendations (besides not buying Dell)? Thanks.

Have you tried a boot disk? Even if the hard drive was erased/bad, you should get some sort of message on the screen. I am thinking your BIOS is fuXored. Do you get anythign on the screen?

i don't know if it is the monitor ... nothing shows up at all. i have a stand-alone monitor at home so i'll give it a try. but it's weird ... the fucker seems to want to come to life when i press the power, but putters out and dies on me. so it's on for about five seconds and then shuts down.

try booting to the BIOS and see if it stays on in there, if it shuts down than it needs repair, if it stays on for longer than it normally does than ,,,run a restore (back up info, beforehand if possible)

If all else fails; disconnect power, pull the battery out. Let it sit 10-15m with no power and no battery.

Then put eveything back in and try again...

Sometimes the bus and or chipset can get hung and it just needs to be reset.
