Don't use Symantec/Norton!!

Stick with McAfee and Trend Micro..

http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/securit...9180674,00.htm

This is the first time the virus writers at Symantec were able to defeat those, also at Symantec, responsible for stopping the virii.

Kinda funny.

I've never liked Symantec. It chews up too much resources and slows the PC down.

Aside from the point of this thread, I always run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ every so often.. Cleans me up and doesn't require much of my PC resources.

My old company used CAI InoculateIT....my current uses Symantec Corporate 9.0. They are all equally worthless, IMO.

Which version of InoculateIT, the newest one 7.1 has kept my machine free of viruses for years (but not spyware, need other programs for that).

patch has been released, this is like saying don't use Microsoft or dn't use any software cuz theres a bug in it. as long as a patch is out whats the problem..

Also the consumer edition of norton av does kinda eat up alot of resources.

Stick w/ Corporate edition if u can.

systemworks is usually the culprit to computers that slow down.. it does indeed eat a lot of resources. only program i install among them is norton speeddisk.

Yeah, in my experience if you install only the AV portion, not the firewall, and certainly not the whole systemworks mess, you do OK.

I have an external firewall, and run other, better utilities for other things.

I actually had a guy tell me once, "I had {whatever} antivirus but it never seemed to do anything so I got rid of it." So you'd rather have a program like Norton popup every 10 seconds telling you how much its slowing you down? A good antivirus is SUPPOSED to sit there quietly and stay out of your way unless you attempt to launch a virus.
