Does Apple purposely limit supply so that the ridiculous lines of people waiting for these when they come in can help with their marketing? How could they not have predicted the demand? My ATT phone is rapidly dying and they offer nothing decent other than the iphone. I tried to wait in one of those stupidly long lines to get an iphone but after two hours they said the one i wanted was out of stock. Now their web site says I'd need to fly to honolulu to get one.

Annoying. The phone I really want is the HTC Diamond touch but ATT doesn't have it yet and although i'm eligable for an upgrade, my contract isn't up.

 

It's really hard to say, I mean they've already sold 1 million+ and its been just over a week, keeping production levels that high may be hard to maintain quality etc.

 

I'm going to say no.

There were plenty of 1st gen iPhones when they came out. I think the issue this time is they are just supplying the US, but 20-some odd other countries now as well.

 

Yeah, there were definitely a lot more demand this time around. Apple doesn't seem to be the kind of company to limit supply, that and what little say AT&T (which is little) would be against it too, they want people hooked ASAP!

nothing zilch zero nada. the messed up part is i'd prefer to not be a lemming and jump on the iphone bandwagon since its missing features I regularly use. att however has garbage phones so i dont have any alternatives. any suggestions?

oof...I just checked every apple store for tomorrow.

One store somewhere in Cali will have some black 16gb....and the 5th Ave store will have some white 16gb.

All other stores in the US are sold out at the moment.

 

According to a friend of mine that works for AT&T, she says Apple purposely made them limit the amount of iPhones sold per day. So once they hit the daily goal they told people they were sold out.

 

That is true. It also let them have stock for the following day. And I believe, for the apple stores, it was something like 400/day

 

Reports are that Apple and all telcos out-of-stock almost worldwide.

 

Ha, wish we had enough to do that. But yes some stores got a small stock they had to reserve for saturday, but after that, it was fair game. We however did not...

 

they had some in stock today, but i'm still going to wait until the lines go away. i cant help but feel stupid waiting in a long line to buy a damn cell phone.
