Think my computer is half dead
yesterday the entire apartment complex live in had a power surge at 6:30 in the morning. thought nothing of it and reset the clocks in the house before I left for work at 7am.
I come home and my wife tells me the computer isn't working. She says it won't boot...uh oh.
I'm thinking it will be an easy fix...
This is a 2006 gateway computer, can't remember the series model from being at work. The blue light was stuck on. I pressed it until the computer shut off. Turned it back on and nothing. The dvd drives booted like they should but the rear fan stayed on and the screen stayed black. (the fan turns off after booting but turns on when the computer is hot)
I turned it off, unplugged the computer and plugged it back in and still, the same thing happens.
I'm guessing the power surge might of fried something in the computer for it to boot like that. Either the hard drive or something else.
Cliffs:
computer on stand-by
had power surge / computer is now off
wife tells me computer isn't working
tried to do a five minute fix, didn't really have time, nothing works
Just curious if any of you experienced this with your computer.

I had it confirmed with a small computer store and a memory stick shorted out. So, I bought a new 512 stick and replaced the old CPU fan with a Thermaltake fan
Everything for the computer is perfect for now.
