DLP Televison recommendations

Looking to possibly pick-up a 50-55 inch DLP TV.
Looking for somewhere between $2,000 - $3,000 cost.
I am limited to this size due to room conditions.
Any help will be appreciated.

Look into the Mitsubishi DLP sets

I'd look into the Mitsubishi sets. A little pricier than the others, but well worth it IMHO.

WD-52525 (low end)
WD-52725 (middle of the road, different glare filter than 52525 being only big difference)
WD-52825 (top of the line, has DVR, but well beyong your price range. Don't think the DVR is worth the price difference of the 725)

The Mitsubishi DLP is the top rated brand. Go to Cnet.com for reviews.

I would recommend the Samsung.

Be aware though, if you use PS2 on a DLP tv. There is a slight delay from when you press a button to when the action occurs on the tv. This only happens with the PS2 though. If you use Xbox, you should not have a problem.

Wonder why that is?? I actually tried to play ESPN 2K5 on my Mitsub DLP, and not only did the graphics suck but the gameplay was awful as well (that was w/ Progressive scanned turned on). Now playing it regular like (Progressive scan turned off) it played great and actually looked pretty good!!

Plugged in an Xbox and played a little Halo2 and got some weird scan lines (With progressive scan turned on i.e. the 480P/720P/1080i/Widescreen turned on via the control panel. Anybody else experience the same problems? Or anything similar?

Doh, I had the two red RCA's swapped (hard to tell since they are all bundled together). One was the RCA for the Component video, and the other was the RCA for the composite right channel..

doh I feel like a dumbass...

I read something awhile ago that explained the problem. It's the way the games are made. I forget what the reasoning is though.

I don't think they make the 50" Samsung DLP with the HD2+ chip. They make the HD3 and HD4, but the HD4 comes with that ugly ass stand.

Damn, is that really true? I've been eying the Samsung DLPs for my media room for about 6 months now. Thing is... my PS2 will also be in the media room. Is this a random thing, or does it happen all of the time?

Damn, that sucks... may have to start looking into an LCD.

I've got the samsung HLN507W 50" and I've never noticed this while playing various PS2 games. Here's a pic

You can get it on clearance at tweeter.com:

for $1988

For DLP I would go with Samsung.

HL-P5085W

You definitaly want the 85w series. That is 3rd gen and dosen't suffer the rainbow effect that most DLP's have.

Here is a review by Cnet http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6475_7-5148332.html

Just a site on DLP's http://www.dlp.com/

Nevermind.. beetroot seemed to answer it. Maybe the PS2 thing only happens on the new ones? That would still suck.

I know not of this phenomenon.

I've played PS2 on a DLP front projector, I didn't notice anything funny. Maybe it has to do with something else in the rear projection units?

Well that's good to know. Heck.. I'll bring my PS2 and component cables to the store and play it right there to make sure it's OK

The only game I noticed a significant degradation in timing was ESPN2K5, other 480P games played very close to what I would expect if it was played o 480i.

From what I have seen so far, and from personal experience all the games that I have played on my PS2 @ 480i seems to work and play just fine. Now when you enable (which from what I can tell must be done manually) the 480p resolution then that is when I have experienced the problem with ESPN 2K5.

I have noticed this. However, my friend has the 1st gen 61" Samsung DLP (HLN). It also happens on the new HLP sets. It is due to 480i vs. 480p sources used to make the games. There are many threads on this issue on tv/av forums. Here is one:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=443179

The game I noticed the lag on was MVP Baseball 2004.

i have the hlp5063 and experience the lag when playing ps2 480i games.
any game that requires timing like hot shots golf is unplayable in 480i
480p games i dont notice any lag. i hook up through component cables

i like the TV enough where i think i am gonna just keep it.
