Direct TV vs Uverse

I know Uverse bought Direct TV and seem to be trying to get everyone to switch to Direct rather than using Uverse... I heard a rumor to free up bandwidth so they can roll out faster internet.

Anyways, our current Uverse contract ends in a few days and I'm debating either Direct or Uverse.. both just about the same price.. only difference is Direct has a dish. I'm worried of losing signal in rain or a storm etc. Any experiences with this? And no, Fios isn't an option in my area and I'm not going with Time Warner.. hate them.

I had D-TV, but last year I went with Netflix + Hulu + OTA. I never had issues with losing signal, maybe once and it wasn't even during a rain storm.

Everyone is going that route now. I do miss my Satellite every now and then.

Most *good* shows are on-demand on Sling for a week if not more.

We dropped cable and haven't looked back. OTA + Prime + Netflix + Sling has plenty of content for us.

Edit: Also the new DTV dishes are tiny and very powerful. Many people never have issues.

^ Interesting about the new dishes.

I think we are going to, as of right now, continue with Uverse or DTV. then maybe in a year or so when Sling gets OTA programming (I hear it's in the works?) then maybe we'll switch and have Sling + Netflix.

I mean.. they are offering a $450 Visa card to sign up for one year at $110 a year for the TV/Internet package we want. That is basically $73/month.

They both are owned by AT&T and anything owned by AT&T is never good. I've had Directv since 1995. The AT&T buyout made me call Time Warner Cable yesterday to switch. Google Fiber please hurry and bring your service to my area.

As if Time Warner Cable (now Charter) is any better than AT&T.

I went with DirecTV because they gave me $200 in GC's vs $100 for U-Verse. Only thing is after a year you gotta fight them to fix your price.

^ I didn't know that until I started looking at which is better. I think it is probably most noticeable if you have a 4k tv.

It's not really about resolution but compression. A videophile can see it.

Well Direct TV guy came out and much more of a hassle then we expected... best place to put the dish was right next to our garage door... nope. Roof, yard, everywhere else required lots of cables and lots of holes being drilled, which we didn't want. So cancelled it.

Got Uverse installed. A tad less channels but faster internet for same price.. and a $450 Visa card. I'll take it.
