Desktop replacement Notebook... Dell vs HP ????

Hey guys,

I am looking for a desktop replacement notebook. I am comparing the dell 9200 vs HP's zd8000. MAIN difference is the processors. Dell uses the 2.0 M chip vs HP's 3.2 w/HT chip. Which one would be faster in terms of performance. Batt life doesnt really bother me too much.

Here's the specs on both, what would you go with.

Inspiron 9200 Intel®

Pentium® M 755 Processor (2GHz/400MHz FSB)
LCD Panel 17" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen XGA+ Display
Memory 1GB DDR SDRAM at 333MHz 2 Dimm
Video Card 128MB ATI's™ Mobility Radeon™ 9700
Hard Drive 80GB Hard Drive

vs

HP Pavilion zd8000

- Intel(R) Pentium(R)4 processor 540 w/HT Technology (3.2 w/HT at 800mhz)
- 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1440x900)
- 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 400MHz (2x512MB)
- 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
- DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
- 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600

The HP comes with alot of more goodies.

Both will run on xp pro or the new xp media. (debating that too)

Both are running me about 2k even shipped.

All opinions are welcome. Thanks guys.

The 3.2 is faster according to the benchmarks.

Well.. of the 2 I would get the HP. Dell's just arent built like they used to be. Every person I know with a Dell laptop has had major problems with them, including motherboards being replaced.

If I were you, I'd be looking at a Toshiba.

I've heard pretty major problems with the Dells too but you really can't beat their customer service (as long as it hasn't been outsourced yet).

Between the two, I'd get the HP.

If I had my choice though, I'd spring for a Vaio. Had mine for 4 years and never had a problem.

My buddy has that HP. I think he got bluetooth in it as well. It's a really nice machine.

i have a Vaio S Series for work .. if you can afford it, that thing is awesome ... the ultra bright screen is really works .. and very light if you plan to carry it around!

I have the HP laptop, it is a bit on the heavy and bulky side but the performance is just like a desktop if not better.

Go with an IBM ThinkPad (T Series)...You won't be sorry. IBM is always way up on the "best product" reviews.
