Dell or Apple 20" Display?

Thats because its only 64mb and has no limited 3D capabilities. But really, unless you need to do video editing or moderate to heavy gaming, the Macbook is great for every day tasks.

Yeah, I love it for everyday. Runs Lightroom absolutely great -- I use it for a lot of photo stuff. Haven't tried Photoshop on it yet, been doing that on my wife's Pro. Love the way I can stuff it in my carry-on. Great airplane computer -- small enough to use in cramped seats, although the battery life isn't as good as the Pro. All in all I love the thing.

For photos or any program that doesn't require 3D acceleration, the Macbook is great. PS CS3 will not run as well on the MB as well as it does on the MPB though, but that is a given. It'll run, just not as fast.
But there are times when you'll get a lemon. I was trying to fix my friend's Macbook because it kept having kernel panics and was beachballing every few seconds when it was bad and minutes when it was okay. It would freeze about 5 times when typing a post about the length of this post. Apple was nice enough to exchange it for a new one.

Well, fortunately, I didn't get one of the lemons! Couldn't be happier! I figure with one MB and one MB Pro in the family I've got all my bases covered -- Pro for power use, regular MB for everyday, and especially, on the road.

Hmm, I noticed something on the Macmall website that makes me a bit weary. Although it shouldn't be of any concern, I did simplify the issue of DVI connectors. Each DVI-I and DVI-D has male and female connectors which are essentially the plug and socket. Since most LCD/Computers use a male DVI-D and female DVI-I, I just thought it was sufficent to point it out. However, for knowledge's sake as well as just clarification (and some modification to the original post), the female plug is the pitcher and the male plug is the catcher.
I'm not exactly certain why the Macmall version says it's DVI-D connector will not work with DVI-I but my guess is that there might be a difference in pin size. Since you have a male DVI-D from the Dell, make sure the adapter you buy will fit. I am almost 100% certain the Apple one will work for you. Anyone with more DVI knowledge should chime in.
EDIT: Okay, after a little bit of digging, you are fine with the Apple Connector as well as the MacMall one. Sorry for the confusion but since the adapter is a miniDVI to DVI adapter, and Apple failed to mention that it was a DVI-D adapter, you are perfectly okay using the Dell since it also uses DVI-D.
DVI-I has a longer pin that will make the plug slightly more protruding but that is none of your concern for the Dell.
Good luck and hope you like your monitor.

I didn't want to start a new thread since there are already a couple up, but would anyone mind throwing their in about some monitors I'm looking at? I will be hooking it up to a Macbook and an XBOX360.
I'm thinking about one of these, but am open to suggestions. Looking for 24 inches or bigger, and no more than a grand.
Viewsonic 27.5"

Samsung 24"

Yeah, I didn't notice how much nicer the Samsung looks until I just posted this. The Viewsonic is only 100 bucks more for 4 more inches, but it looks way too clunky. The Viewsonic also doesn't have DVI, only HDMI, which is odd.

I just picked up the 24" Samsung. Every 15 seconds or so I get a white line that flashes across the bottom of the screen. Any idea what would cause this? Its driving me nuts.
Monitor is hooked up to my Macbook via mini dvi -> dvi cable. Never saw this problem on other monitors I've used with this same setup. Is there a defect in this monitor?

I said I have trace lines and I... And he cut me off and said its defective. Just talked to a guy at the store who said they aren't compatible with macs for some reason and people return them for this all the time
