And the decision begins... Info inside.

The 2 yr contract with Verizon expires May 31st. We currently have a 2-line plan with 800 anytime, unlimited nights/weekends, blah blah blah... $79.99

There is a $100 credit towards the primary line for a new phone as a carrot to keep you as a customer. The second line doesn't get anything.

BUT....

Through work we have a deal with Cingular. 17% discounts on the rate plans and 45% disocunts on equipment, excluding Blackberrys.

It seems I'd come out way ahead on the rate plans with cingular, but the phone would end up costing me more through Cingular.

Any thoughts?

And oh, btw... What phones should I get with either vendor?

yeah the fone would cost more, but its only for now... you'll pay more for the fone now, but you'll get discounts on ur plans... id say swtich over to cingular- i havnt heard complaints about their service ever since the two merged... IF i had that deal, id switch in an instant... GSM owns all

Instead of going through work for Cingular, try a couple online merchants. I would suggest looking at Amazon since they always have crazy rebates. What features are you looking for in a phone?

I'm not a phone whore, but I want something cool looking.

The Razr is certainly an option, but I don't know if I want to spend the $$$.

Bluetooth and a camera. Everything else is just gravy for me.

Buy online from amazon.com or any other provider. Prices are great after rebate.

The catch, no one will give you 1 year contract. Cingular imposes 2 years.

Balance the benefits, for instance, comparing to a 1 year contract and 2 free phones that Bimmer88 provides with t-mobile.

Man you shouldnt even have to think about this stuff, Go with T-Mobile

$69.99 - 1000 Minutes - 2 Lines - Unlimited Nights and Weekends - Unlimited Mobile to Mobile.

Forget that 45% Cingular Equipment Discount, Bimmer has a lot better prices for you

you said you like the Razr? and they are expensive? Hell naw haha

get two of them for $150 thru Bimmer

or with cingular you could go with (2 lines) 79.99 - (17% on 69.99 line) = 68.00 total for both lines.

1100 rollover minutes
unlimited mobile to mobile (any cingular/any att, 50million cust)
unlimited nights and weekends

You can actually get 1100 minutes for $69.99 with Cingular - 17% so u get a better deal, but you might make out with a better phone through Bimmer

yih

minute plans are better through cingular.

phones are better through teh deal above, but do I want t-mobile as my provider? I haven't heard many good things about them.

No offense to the vendor, but do they really compare to the Verrizons and Cingulars of the world???

No offense to bimmer88 either; but I also really like the deals, although most of my friends with t-mobile have a lousy reception while I can still talk in the same place

As I see it...

I'll save about $150 yearly on the rate plan by going through Cingular. However, I'm probably going to be spending OVER $150 on equipment to switch over to Cingular.

What's everyone's take on the v710? I can get that phone free through Verizon. Bluetooth, camera phone. Free. Thoughts?

I can get the v710 direct through Verizon free with my $100 credit towards a new phone... I don't need amazon.

I think the friggin' switching costs (phones, activation, etc) are going to prevent me from going over to Cingular. Rate plans are cheaper, but the upfront costs are much greater than if I stay.

Scrib,

I only have this to say. Everyone I know that has cingular/at&t HATES IT!!! especially since the merge.

They all want to switch to a different provider.

So, keep that one in mind as well. SAving money is always better, you get what you pay for

I've had AT&T and Sprint, but now I'm a Verizon customer. You can't BEAT Verizon with their reception. My gf had T-Mobile and her reception was absolutely horrible. Her reception would fade out all the time. I don't know too much about Cingular, but they do have some cool phones like that RAZR phone, but their reception is not the best either. For me, the most important thing is the quality reception and that's Verizon.

Oh, if you stick with Verizon, get the LG 6100. That's what I have and its a great phone.

I'm sort of in the same boat....should I stay with Verizon and get the V710 or switch. T-Mobile in our area sucks and my friend is having a billing headache from Cingular since he switched over from Verizon. The RAZR is a sweet phone, but I don't want to pay the cost for it. I think I will probably get my free V710 and renew for 2 years. Hopefully Verizon fixed the "crippled bluetooth" problem.

My suggestion is get the V710 because so far, Verizon's got great customer service...I've complained and even yelled once or twice, but they always fixed my problems. A free V710 is great, but it's replacement is coming out very soon, the E815.

I moved from Verizon (was with them for like 3-4 years) to T.Mobile. Bimmer hooked me up. Reception is fine, I actually can finally get reception at work! House isn't as good... but I'd rather have perfect reception at work. When my 1 year contract expires, I'll probably go wtih T.mobile again...and I kept my old number/

The store ended up giving me two v710s...

Oh well... The phone seems pretty nice. Much nicer than my LG4400.

How do you like the V710? What are the "+" and "-" that you've found so far? Have tried transferring mp3 or pictures in any way? I'm considering upgrading right now, but have been going back and forth on this all week.
