cox cable vs Verizon Fios pros/cons
cox cable vs Verizon Fios pros/cons
Hello
Need help deciding whether to switch to Fios or stay with Cox
we have cox right now and it $194 per month for unlimited phone, internet 50/5, and contour dvr with digital tv (they dropped it to $164 today after I told them I was thinking of switching) Still not sure I want to stay though.
Fios said they could do $141 per month. I think the internet is 50/50. Phone is similar and tv is similar except its a normal dvr and not the contour one.
is it worth switching? is fios reliable and what about customer service
thanks in advance

I've had cox for a decade, got FIOS about 5 years back and I must say it's the best decision ever.
Cox - you are sharing your internet so I'm sure your speed is much slower during peak hours.
FIOS - you are guaranteed to always have your advertized speeds. I have 75/75, and I bench 83mpbs all day.
FIOS boxes are much quicker and much better optimized than cable in terms of user interface. FIOS onDemand feature blows cox out of the water (lol)
Since you have both options available you get to play them against each other. FIOS also gives you I believe $350 in cash back when you sign 2 yr contract.
Not satisfied yet? OK, how about this, with FIOS you will enjoy a much better picture quality because unlike cable it does not compress channels. Cox split 3 channels in one feed at about 8-12bmps, so you will never have true 'HD". It's all grainy up-converted nonsense. FIOS you get full bandwidth per channel.

Had Cox years ago, then DTV, because Cox was bad. Once FiOS in my area, never looked back.
Taxes are from state and federal. One doesn't get taxed more because of who they are. It's because of the services you get from them.

I was told $120/mo and $141 after taxes with $400 gift card for 2yr contact
I dont mind switching if its better
I'll lose and the shows recorded on the dvr but oh well

Fios has been fine, but their prices don't include the boxes which are pretty pricey. So figure another $20 a month for a DVR and $12 more for each HD box. No experience with Cox but I like Fios better than Comcast. I recently sent the boxes back since I watch more Netflix than anything, I was spending $30+ a month on my boxes and on the rare event i want to watch regular TV my home theater has the Fios Mobile app built in which basically looks like the cable box menu but a little slower to use.
My FIOS is $118/mo after taxes. If you can believe it, my bill went DOWN on this contract renewal, about $5. I have home phone, cable and 40/20 internet. I don't watch TV or use the phone, but it's more expensive to just get internet.
Local provider brighthouse has been promoting that they've upgraded to fiber for all their backbone, so the "shared" bandwidth problem is reduced. Not sure if Cox has done the same.
