Countdown to Sprint HTC 6800
Rumor has it it will be released on May 14th. It has taken Sprint way to much time to upgrade their PDA phones.

I didn't even know they were working on an updated model since they added the samsung to their product line.
Anyway I did a quick search and found some pics:

Oh yea,
Hopefully they fixed the reception issues with the phone. I have really bad reception on my PPC-6700 and other's have complained about it as well after i did some research on the net.
don't know if I can afford the purchase of this phone though, it'll easily be over $450

I honestly have had the same phone for years and am no longer under contract. The first phone I purchased from Sprint back in '99 was the only one. All others have been from Circuit City. I am going to call in to cancel my service and then tell them I'll stay if they give me the new phone (I'll shell out $100 if necessary). My wifes phone is in the same predicament.

6800 is a 6700 minus the antenna and evdo rev a. and a 2.0MP camera.
Not worth the $$ for a "upgrade" ... it's basically the same phone colored black and slightly restyled with no antenna and a 2MP camera.
Especially since it doesn't have WM6... WM6 will fix all of the bluetooth woes.
You guys do know you can load *custom* roms on the 6700 right? It's fully hackable. People have been making fixes for the phone and releasing their own ROMs. So the community has been supporting the phone even when Sprint hasn't....
There's even a linux distro in the works...
And WM6 is being ported to 6700 since the Cingular version got leaked recently...
Buying the latest and greatest is just going to get you a new paintjob/logo on the phone in this case. Not worth it on this one...
A major drawback is the 6800 will not let you tether the phone without paying extra fees for computer -> phone data services. Where as the 6700 will...
If you already own a 6700 I wouldn't waste the $$ switching... unless EVDO Rev A. is a must have

Don't you think someone will find away around the tethering issues with 6800?
There is also rumor of future updates for WM6 and RevA for this phone in the 3rdQ... (I just can't wait till the 3rdQ to buy a phone)
For me this is more of a new phone purchase than just an upgrade. I have been waiting for a new pda phone to come out simply because I didn't want to buy an outdated model.

i've been having the 6700 and a 700wx for a while now, maybe i'll get rid of the 6700 for the 6800, b/c it's been giving me a lot more problems lately. Also, i don't think tethering will be an issue, b/c the PDAnet software works on the 700wx just fine, i'm sure they can make a version for the 6800

The software for the tethering isn't the issue. You'll be able to tether... One huge "feature" with Sprints 6700 is it doesn't register that it is tethered when making a data call. So if you have unlimited web access you have unlimited tethered access as well. The code that does this is in the firmware for the phone radio portion itself. Current 6700 phones for Sprint do not register if you are tethered when making a data connection. The 6800 will register. I.E you will be paying a lot more for data usage when you connect tethered.
And the 6800 with WM5 isn't going to fix anything that is broken on the 6700. WM6 with it's new Bluetooth stack will be a HUGE improvement! But I bet you'll see a WM6 release for 6700 (hacked) before you see one for the 6800.
*hopefully the 6700 will have WM6 *very* soon

Ya, if someone reverse engineers the phone firmware (NOT THE WM O/S) they can do it. Hasn't been done yet... as the Verizon 6700 phones do register they are tethered and no one has released a hacked phone ROM flash to defeat it.
All of the custom flashes released so far are for the Window Mobile OS. Nothing has been cracked for the phone ROM.
Again, if you have a 6700 changing to the 6800 won't get you much... If I was buying new I'd get a 6800, but I wouldn't change to it form a 6700 until some hacks are out. Hopefully they will happen one day... Specs between the 6700 and 6800 aren't worth the cost difference for anyone who currently owns a 6700.

yup, this 6800 isn't a major upgrade from the 6700. The only major hardware difference is the Camera and EVDO Rev. A.
Now Windows Mobile 6 will fix a ton of stuff that was/is broken on the 6700.
I would hope the 6800 will launch with WM6 since it's been pushed back... launching it with WM5 is a joke. As there is little benefit from the 6700.

I don't think it will have Rev A right out of the box, but their should be a firmware upgrade later in the year for Rev A. From what I have been reading, they are trying to get the phone out with WM6 soon, then have a upgrade for Rev A later. The original rumor was it was being pushed back to Oct. so it will have Rev A and WM6 right out of the box.
This is all still rumors spread all over the net. I'm not going to get too excited yet until I see it on sprint's website.

^^^^ Did it come with the bluetooth headset?
Glad to hear it's out. Now just gotta see when it'll be added to the sprint site, and how much.
I just checked the sprint site, and it's not listed [yet].

^^^ Yup, they've removed the 6700 as well. I'm surprised by that. I'm shocked that they didn't simply lower the price. I guess they don't want to lose sales from the mogul.

Mine should be here tomorrow night only paid 288.99 by changing over to SERO plan and getting misquoted a price by one of their bangladesh telesales people. SO WOOHOO for me only bad thing is I had to spend all day fighting with customer service because they put me in a backorder status when they had plenty in stock. So i got free overnight shipping so I will have my Mogul tommorrow if all goes well.
