Cool Cool smartphone FOR YOUR HOUSE

http://www.archos.com/products/ah/ar...try=us&lang=en

not many people have a homephone, most who RELY on home phone probably wouldnt be interested/wont spend the money on this but i think its nice! esp. being able to use the phone as baby monitor and have video chat. being able to transfer your contacts from your android cell phone is a nice touch

i have a home phone for 2 reasons. faxing and it makes the cable bill cheaper but since we have it we do use it to call fam while we are at home and to call each other (intercom feature)

That is pretty cool... but like the others, haven't had a home phone in years. Since 2004 actually. Been using VoIP services or just our cells for a while...

^Werd. Once I was able to control my home alarm with my smartphone, it was pointless to spend $31/month for a landline.

I think that is a very good idea. I might get the comcast triple play since my bill has gone to over $150/mo. now and would be interested in something like that.

i ASSUME that the phone will connect to the base using blutooth

at the sametime ARCHOS is launching thier android based home radio with camera, picture viewing, wifi (to stream internet radio to other devices ect)

again most people dont have home stereos anymore as most entertainment centers/blu-ray players also play music if you wanted to sit and listen/entertain guests.

mcflyguy tripleplay is the way to go with comcast. also complaing the shit is two expensive and you plan to get satalite will usually get you free channels/lower bill!

had my wife complain the gave us like 6 more channels and took like 8$ a mo off our bill

I just complained today and Comcast took $27 a month off our bill for a year.

I'm calling them tomorrow. I watched my bill grow from around $80 to $150 in the past year as my promos ran out, the only new thing I added this past year was DVR. Fuck comcast.

Meh.

I'll just get one of those devices that pairs your cellphone with your homephone. That way I don't have to run to my room if I get a call.

Nvm it's got angry birds, do want!!!!

How does your alarm system contact the monitoring center?

Do you have the cellular connection for it?

Ours does at home, but they're using AT&T networks....

Give me a universal option to pair a mobile phone number to a physical address with 911 systems instead. Then I can pay $10/mo for an extra line instead of having home phone service.

1) OTA Antenna = No monthly, ~$25 to purchase.

2) Roku Box = No monthly, ~$70 to purchase (if you want 1080p)

3) Hulu+ and Netflix Streaming = ~$18/mo

4) Cable modem = $34.99/mo

5) MagicJack = $39.99 first year (~$3.33/mo), $19.99 per year after that (~$1.66/mo)

6) Optional Media PC = No monthly, price to build/buy varies depending on features.

Our cable and internet bill was ~$160/mo and the only premium channel we had was HBO (plus 2 HD-DVR's). Now we get pretty much everything we had (haven't been able to find a place to stream HGTV yet, but we're still managing to survive ) for ~$57/month. We recouped our outlay for the antenna and two Roku boxes in ~two months... so it's just gravy now.

Not a bad idea but 911 call centers still can find the location of your cellphone, regardless of where you are. Cell phone carriers are actually mandated by the FCC to allow this.

It's based on triangulation, not address. Even Interconnected voip allows for address verification and callback. Cell phones still do not.

Some areas allow you to register a cell phone to a physical address, but not all. And until they do, the cell phone and voip will not replace landlines for most users.

It's Honeywell system through Total Connect Ap for my Evo. I also have on my desktop at work. It is fabulous, for example I can turn off my alarm system remotely when my housecleaners come and active it when they leave.

This is how it's done--->

This is almost exactly my setup except instead of MagicJack I have a landline for my alarm system.

This seems like a great set-up. Very interested in the Roku box, but can't do OTA antennae since I live in an apt that is at ground level. Perhaps I could just get basic cable for around $20ish and use the Roku+netlfix and hulu for everything else. How good is premium hulu though? That is my only concern that I may miss some shows or have to wait. I didn't even know about the Roku box until you posted it, seems like a cool idea, kinda like google tv in a way.
