Computer Monitoring Software

So my boss has been warning everyone in the office to not be on inappropriate site's and that he is now currently monitoring what we do. I wanna know how do i find out if it is true? My boss is completely computer literate, i mean he calls me all day asking how to watch youtube, how to open excel and word files, and how to add attachments to his emails. So we have login to a network in order for us to find files on our two servers. I wanna know if there is a program or software that i can use to see if this monitoring software exist. Thanks

It depends on exactly how they're doing the monitoring, but it's possible you can't find out. There are many ways to packet-sniff based on IP address and URL, and create logs from that. If it runs at the gateway or the firewall, it doesn't require software on each workstation, meaning you'd never know until confronted with the evidence.

Well how dumb can you be?

Anyone who can figure out Youtube can figure out a router and its log of inappropriate places online

The only way they found out was when a co-worker quit and didn't delete the emails and when they went into the computer to reformat and take information pertaining to our jobs, that's when they found the emails. If it wasn't for that incident than nothing would of ever happened.

I work for a construction company so that would mean all of the foreman's and superintendents would also be fired. We email alot between us and all look at porn sites.

Well going through someones existing email and packet sniffing a network to find out what sites employees visit are two vastly different things.

Almost sounds like a scare tactic, but who knows. It could be legit. Any weird processes running that you don't recognize? Do you clear your history and everything?

What kind of porn do you look at?

I clear everything every time i close out of mozilla, i clean my task manager and consistently check it but i dont see any unusual programs running that i cant track down to what it is. Is there anywhere else i should be clearing daily or hourly. I mostly download from rapidshare sites and never stream it here. I really think its a scare tactic my boss is totally computer illiterate.

Clearing your cache and browsing history isn't going to solve a thing if they simply open up the log on the router..

I could show a 10 year old how to do it in under 2 minutes.

Dude, among the many things I do for a living, this is one. People like your boss call me up and ask me how to snoop on employees without them knowing about it.

You want some real, honest, insider advice on how to not get seriously fucked by this?

Don't do stupid shit on your work computer.

If he has installed SpectorPro on your machine, you are not going to find it. I might be able to find it. If he is logging at the router, there will be nothing showing on your computer. Well, nothing until you get the email that says "please meet your supervisor and the HR manager in the conference room."

Not only that, but all that history deletion you do is only going to make me pissed off when I recover it all. It also makes you look guilty as hell.

If you want to keep your job, just stay away from the BS. Do your job how they want to do so. View porn at work stoopid!

Your job isn't worth getting your dick hard when you can't do anything with it.

edit, well if you can't not from stop watching porn at work, well we don't wanna know.

If you delete your history and cache make sure you run "wipe free space" on ccleaner afterwards, which will run a DoD pass on your free space. That'll piss stogie off even more.

but yeah seriously now that I have an IT job I've run into a couple people like you who watch pr0n on their work PC. Seriously what's the point of watching if you aren't going to wackoff? Please tell me you're not doing that AT work!!! I bet your PC is fucking infested with malware and then you call your IT people and say "oh it's running so slow and I get these pop-ups and it starts talking to me!! I swear I didn't do anything I just go on the company intranet and msn.com, I swear!!!"

Hahaha thanks for the flaming and i should of known it was coming . I guess ill just stop downloading porn and looking at those sites during work to save my job. Its not like i look at porn all 8hrs of my work day or download porn on daily basis. But im sure within our company everyday someone will look at it briefly daily. But i mean i my leave browser open on Acurazine and other car sites all day and not necessarily surfing the web all day. All i wanted to know was if there was a way to track my history of browsing here and other forums.

Hi. I am Earth. Have we met?

Unless you somehow have management duties over the actual router your office uses to connect all your work computers to the interweb, YOU can't clear the router logs.

Perhaps buy the IT guy a nice bottle of scotch as a bribe.

I surf a couple of news sites while working on my office workstation, but I don't view videos and I don't visit porn sites or sites to download non-work files.
My big problem is the AZ addiction-- it requires me to do work while trying to post here.

buy a mini desktop (Acer) and surf to your heart's content but do not use your work computer. We had a few that were fired for surfing porn. It is pretty obvious when you get a shit load of viruses and Tech has to clean it up for you.....

^that won't help if they have a box wired in before the wireless router or are logging from within the router. unless he uses 3G or some other Wi-Fi.

unless there are tons of people at the office who also use their own computers they will notice the one IP that isn't standard. Some routers and pre router records boxes even log MAC addresses.

Just because your boss is tech-dumb does not mean that he's asked some outside party (IT or some consultant) to set up a monitoring solution for you and your co-workers internet activity. If he says that he's monitoring activity I would take him at his word and be on my guard for a while. Let some other fool get caught browsing inappropriate sites and then see what the punishment is.

Do you work for a small, medium or large company/corporation?

If you have wireless access point I would use a wireless usb key and make the IP static. Change the IP every couple days or week. Change the wireless settings (TCP/IP settings) back to automatic once you're done browsing. Take the usb key with you when you leave.. that way IP & MAC addy traces fail to point to your machine. Just make sure you use the usb key on sites that won't point back to you and use your LAN connection for work related, personal websites.

I work for a medium size company with about 300 employees here in Hawaii and California.

^ eh.. just go buy the boss plate lunch every now and then or bring in some cocoa puffs from liliha bakery in the morning.. bottom line is if he's happy with your work and he likes you, he'll stay off your back. I wouldn't worry too much about browsing Azine.. he can't fault you for liking car porn..

^^^ But i have a hoale boss so he doesnt like the plate lunch thing to much. Everyday its subway, blimpie's or Quizno's. I try to get him to come out to lunch with us for sushi, pho, or other varieties but he rather eat his sandwich. But maybe i should start bringing in some Manapua and cocoa puffs more often but than i will be eating that as well and thats instant fat ass right there. Good thing is that he is a car fanatic as well, he drives a Audi RS4 and a fully done C5. I laugh sometimes cause alot of his car parts are delivered during work hours and he sits there playing with them all day after that but when your the boss you can do that.

Never understand why people bother looking at risky stuff from the office. I guess earning a living isn't too important to some...and not even just career-wise, but actually having a job to put some food on the table. Why risk it?!
