My current contract w/ AT&T wireless (now cingular) is up and I'm debating on what i should do. Should I sign w/ cingular, verizon, sprint, or t-mobile? I live in Pittsburgh and the coverage area is decent for all of them.

If they all have good coverage then pick the one who offers the cheapest plan, which I think right now is sprint. I have verizon now, but im thinkin of switching back to sprint.

Think it depends where you live. Sprint/Nextel is HORRIBLE in NY. Verizon is very good. Cingular and T-Mobile are up and coming, but I would go Cingular out of the 2. I currently have Nextel and am switching to either Verizon or Cingular very soon.

T-mobile will give you the most minutes... If the coverage is good, go for it.

My advice is... think of the places you spend most of time... home, work, school... etc.etc... and if you can do a little survey of you own... Ask friends with different services... and go to these places WITH their phones and see what kind of signals you get... you obviously know the coverage with cingular/AT&T... The worst thing is... you sign up with a 2 years contract buy only to find out later that you get shitty service at a location where you spend a lot of time... I'm in the process myself of switching from Sprint to Verizon... I've been with Sprint since 98' but IMO their service has gone down since merging with Nextel... AND where I work Verizon is the only service that comes in with 3 or more "bars"... I kept getting dropped calls with Sprint. Basically, I just asked around, whenever people had their phones and see what service had the best signal.

Verizon's plans are more... but I got sick of dropped calls. But that doesn't mean Sprint's coverage sucks everywhere, it just sucks here where I work...

P.S. I'm loving my Treo 700w!

you will prob pay an activation fee with vzw, if you migrate to cing, you won't pay the upgrade fee, but that is all they will do for you to upgrade

Go with the provider that most of your friends and family have. I have Verizon with a plan that only has 500 minutes per month. I use roughly 2000-3000 mintues each month but never go over cuz most of my family and friends have Verizon. All the minutes between us are free.

And I didnt pay an activation fee when I signed up with Verizon

I haver verizon, just because. In NY, the service is the best and everyone else has it, so I easily get by having a 39.99 plan.

T-Mobile > * Best plans, phones and service. Also winner of the JD Power award for like the 3rd year in a row.

Wow that statement is way too general. It all depends on where you live. Around here T-Mobile < * since there isn't a tower anywhere near. Sure they have good plans but plans and phone mean nothing if you get no service.

I've had Nextel for 2 years or so and the service turned to complete crap. When i first signed up for it the service was bearable, and my co-workers/friends also had nextel so everything was much easier. Then it just got real bad where it felt like i just had a walkie talkie.

I came back to cingular and haven't had any problems since. The customer service team are a bunch of morons, but what can you expect.

Verizon has great service in my area, but the plans and phones suck and are overpriced. Tmobile is very good as well, but they have a lot of billing problems.

It just depends what it is in your area.
