Cancelling Nextel. Who has Cingular?

I live in central NJ. I currently have Nextel and the service has been horrible. I am just about to cancel my contract. I am looking into signing up with Cingular.Has anyone had any problems with them? Thanks for the info.

I use cingular in CJ works great. Where are you exactly located. Remember if you cancel the serivce you lose the number. So if you are in or out of contract and want to keep it dont cancel. If you are going to port over the number make sure Nextel removes the number block from the phone. Where in CJ are you. I sell cingular

I still have Nextel, and after the last few months of hell, I decided that their customer service really really sucks. I have to keep my Nextel service because I use it all the time for work purposes though. Until then I guess I'll have to be disappointed with their service..

i dropped nextel and went back to cingular. service with nextel just kept declining for me. from reception to customer service. to top it all off, they are very slow with phone development. their big thing right now is that the i860 is MMS capable. woo hoo, everyone had this capabality for years now.

i'm using an unlocked nokia 6260 that i got in philippines and works great. i'm looking into the treo 650 though. if only the sidekick had bluetooth

My roommate had AT&T and liked it, but when it switched to cingular he absolutely hated it.
He can't wait for his contract to be up to switch.

That's great from somebody who's selling Cingular.

I want to hear about the reception in NJ from Cingular customers. Any dead areas? Dropped calls? etc. My Verizon expires in August and I'd like to switch to another carrier because there are more Bluetooth phone options. But I don't want to lose coverage. A Bluetooth phone is useless if I can't make a call.

I live in Hunterdon County (Flemington area) and commute to Edison. My first provider was AT&T (~6 yrs ago) and there were a few dead spots on my commute in Hunterdon. Then I switched to Verizon and I have never had a problem.

Do providers have a "grace period" to try out their service? Say 30 days or so?

Thanks for the info!

edison is a strong area for both cingular and verizon not gonna lie...just because it is such a big area...RT. 1 is a huge place not to get service...

i am not real familiar with the fleminton area....but as for going south near freehold > jackson nj type deal...service sucks for all carriers...

let me know what you decide to do...i just hooked up someone form the board up the other day with a phone..

Good luck with Cingular, pretty cool with the hookup. Hope it works out for you.

Though I don't live in the Garden State, I've had some rocky experiences with Cingular.

1. They do have a 30 day grace period. If you cancel in that time, RETURN THE PHONE BY THAT 30 DAYS! Otherwise, you'll get screwed into paying the Early Termination Fee. Oh yeah, if you buy the phone from the store, you can go back to the store, otherwise, you have to ship it back to them.

2. Cingular will take FOREVER to change your address if you move.

3. Last I checked, they don't offer a good text messaging package. I had 750 and I burned them all.

4. If you have lots of friends on Cingular, it really is worthwhile!

Hope it works out for you. Just wanted to point out that 30 day period. They ALMOST screwed me and sent me to collection. So just wanted to pass on that pearl of wisdom.

If you're still in need of more info. Go to www.cnet.com and check out their reviews on service and phones.
