Buy a Sony HDTV and get a free PS3

I thought this was a really good deal and some of you would like to know about it. Since I already have a PS3 and a Sony HDTV I feel kinda left out but oh well. If you bought a HDTV for Christmas maybe you should take it back and then buy one this way and get a free ps3.

http://sonycard.sony.com/sonygateway...ID=&PROMO=DF01

p.s. the offer expires Dec 31st so if you're interested you better jump on it.

The Wii kicked the PS3's ass over the holidays but I think this might have a lot to do with the Blu-ray-HD DVD battle more than poor sales.

One reason the PS3 not doing as well is cause it's the most expensive console and surprise surprise the best selling is the cheapest. Prices for the current gen consoles haven't dropped enough so that the price difference isn't a factor.

The price has nothing to do with it. The Xbox 360 is floating along just fine without the problems Sony has had with the PS3.

The Wii is kicking both their asses because its a FUN console. It transcends the usual gamer demographic and grabs the interest of damn near everyone that plays it. Its just a smart console, and the fact that its more affordable then the others is a bonus, and genius on Nintendo's part because they are the only one of the three that actually make a profit per sale rather then a loss.

did you guys notice they have a PS3 commercial AS a Blu Ray player? The commercial shows NO games, but footages from various movies out on BR. It's like... people aren't buying it for a game console that plays BR movies... but buying it as a BR player that plays games.

Yeah and Sony really fucked themselves on that one, since they had to drop the price of their entry player. So, its no longer the cheapest BR player.

They had to do that because Toshiba was blowing out their HD DVD players for $99.

I'm not sure how true this is, but I heard BR was raping HD DVD, the only thing keeping HD alive was their contract with the porno industry

No.

The porn industry has had nothing to do with this format war.

And I wouldn't say BR was kicking HD-DVD ass either. BR has been outselling HD, but thats great til you look at the larger numbers, in which case neither is doing super well in the grand scheme.

So, HD-DVD was near death, but the microsoft paying off paramount to go HD-DVD exclusive did make so this war will continue for that much longer.

BR is outselling HD DVD but the numbers are so minuscule compared to DVD sales that it really doesn't matter. And the porn industry sells movies in both formats, although there are more HD DVD porns. There is no contract. Sony, while not forbidding porn companies from using the Blu-ray replicating lines, was very hesitant but have since relaxed their stance, especially since Japanese porns are all BD.

The catch, you have to apply for their credit card and be approved and purchase the TV with it.

Since they seem to have lost the console war, they might as well try to win the DVD war

I think that's partially because a Sony survey found that many, many PS3 owners and potential owners don't know it plays Blu-ray movies. When you hear "PS3," everyone knows that it plays games. Sony is trying to let everyone know, "Hey, this thing plays Blu-ray movies, too."

all I know is... mine's pretty much just a BR player right now... yes, there were a couple decent games, but lately anything that comes out that I have interest in, I buy it for the 360... cuz all my friends that play LIVE are there.

BOGOs FTW! There have been tons of BOGOs on Amazon, Best Buy, Fry's, etc. Just wait for sales, and don't buy anything that isn't on sale. Also, try buying used. AVSforum has a classified section. I've purchased about 5-6 HD movies that way, paying about $14-$15 a movie.

that's not a bad catch at all. There's no annual fee, you still get 12 months no interest and you can earn points towards $ off your next Sony purchase.

Yeah, but those Toshiba's were a 1080i player, and not a 1080p

If your display has a good deinterlacer, it really doesn't matter. I compared my A3 to an A30 on my Pioneer, and noticed no difference between the two in terms of PQ.

You have a pioneer. Most people that price shop do not, which makes a big difference. I agree with you, but I think that most people that would purchase by price also buy their tv by price, not by specs.

But then again, those same people probably aren't that concerned about picture quality.

They may or may not be. A lot of them just don't know the difference. We do though. I am just referring to the fact thought that people are going out and buying an HD-DVD player because they are told that they can hook up an HD-DVD player to their new 1080p tv, and produce a 1080p picture. In that case, it just isn't true. It's a little confusing to the uninformed. With blu-ray, at least you know what you are getting. (not a fan of either side by the way, I still don't think there is a justification to go either way at this point. Have a upconverting sony dvd player myself)

yeah, it's definitely doing a lot better this year, but then again... last year around now, not many games out for the PS3, and the supply for the actual console was low (last year).

Nope the PS3 was still in short supply and was still selling above face value but it had died down alot. I bought mine just before christmas I just happened to be lucky and walk in the store and I saw some guy with one in his hand so I asked and the had just gotten a shipment in so I did an impulse buy and picked it up. I then went home and checked ebay and they weren't sell for much of a profit so I just kept it.

No console when it launches has a bunch of games. The first games that launch with a console usually suck with the exception being Halo and I guess Wii Sports, it's for about a year until good games come out.
