building new computer, vista compatibility question

I'm building a new computer for myself and originally decided on the athlon 64 4000+ with MSI K8NGM2-FID socket 939 mobo. It won't be used for gaming, mostly office work (the comp now is very outdated).

My main question is, in the next year or so, if I wanted to upgrade to Vista, would that be a problem? Should I just go ahead and get a socket AM2 dual core cpu?

edit: Maybe the question I should be asking is, will the motherboard be compatible with a Vista upgrade? Or are there any other forseeable problems?

4000+ cpu will be fine, make sure you get plenty of ram (2 gb would be good)

oh and one more question, should i go with the X2 3800+ dual core or the athlon 64 4000+ single core? the X2 is almost $20 more, kinda negligible.

very true. The recent builds are getting faster and faster

but there are a ton of features that definately will use up memory, so the more you have the better

I have not installed the version we got a few weeks ago with our MSDN subscription. I really hope you're correct b/c I was extremely disappointed.

How long ago did you get it?

They just released the 5536 build in MSDN, but the one before that to the MSDN community was Beta 2, which if it is don't bother. Log into the MSDN web site and download the August build. It is much better than the earlier builds that had debug turned on.

absolutely get the X2, and if you can get a socket am2 board, itll provide you with better upgrade options in the future as socket 939 is discontinued
