BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS 4.7.0.148 Available This Sunday!!
After hearing that OS 4.7.0.141 failed Verizon testing, and seeing yesterdays MR2 info sheet, everyone has been getting a bit anxious waiting for something from Big Red. Well we just officially got word that Verizon will release OS 4.7.0.148 for the BlackBerry Storm 9530 this Sunday, May 31st at 3pm EST.
Customers will be able to get the update via the Web at www.blackberry.com/update beginning Sunday, May 31 from 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Verizon Wireless will also be rolling this update out to customers through an over-the-air download beginning Sunday night (10 p.m. Eastern Time). To get the download over the air, go to Options> Advanced Options > Wireless Updates.
It's about time right? Hopefully this update will have some good fixes. Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

I'll believe it when I see it.

I still am ecstatic about my Storm. This is BY FAR the best, easiest to use, most functional phone I've ever had. That being said, it probably took me 2-3 weeks to get everything down.

I have had the Storm since the release date and haven't updated with any of the leaked OS updates and had all the common issues (random shut down, freezing, and lag in operation). I finally updated last night and it has been 100% improvement but I'm still considering making the switch to the new iPhone.

I'm still running .132. Might try upgrading.
I did unlock my Storm and my wife's Storm over the weekend, though. Now we just have to figure out what sim PAYG plan to get while in the UK and France. She leaves tonight. I leave in 10 days.

Called Verizon and they did it with minimal issues.
The just verified that I had the phone for more than 90 days. Then they gave me one code to unlock both phones - which sounded weird. Plus the guy didn't have proper instructions on how to actually unlock. After searching crackberry.com I found out how to do it. Of course, the code only worked for one phone. I called back, got the other code and this time the CSR gave me the right instructions.
I know I could have used the sim it comes with for overseas, but it is freaking expensive. Just going to get a pat as you go (PAYG) sim. I'm just not sure who will support the BB as a PAYG phone. I really want to be able to use google maps.

It's a bit snappier from what I remember. I didn't use .148 for more than a day...I upgraded to the .151/5.0 hybrid as soon as it was available.
.148 has a huge memory leak, which is why I upgraded. I would start with 40mb of memory and an hour later, I was less than 10mb. The phone was horribly slow.
The hybrid somewhat fixed the leak, but not as good as the latest .151. If you are having memory leak issues, I recommend upgrading to .151.

sho - Thanks for the info. There are just so many PAYG plans out there and without knowing which carriers are decent, we're just waiting til we get there to make a decision. Actually, my wife just got there a couple of hours ago, so hopefully she can find a good PAYG plan before I get there in 10 days.
I didn't even realize that feature existed. thanks.

Haha no problem. I installed .151 last night. It's pretty cool, but I wouldn't say it's a HUGE improvement over .148. But it's worth the upgrade.
Why the hell can't I load my bank's website (citizensbank.com) but my friends iPhone can? It's annoying me.

I also just realized you can side swipe when using BB messenger to scroll between conversations. I guess I never needed to when I only had one contact until recently.

I was just about to post, I don't recommend installing this upgrade. To say it is buggy would be an understatement. It froze A LOT, I could rarely even login without having to pull the battery. There was also an issue with the phone just calling the people in my contacts automatically. When I could get it unlocked, it was like the talk button was being pressed repeatedly. I could not stop it.
In short, don't install this unless you enjoy stress.

No worries. That's the risk you take when you upgrade to a leaked OS.
It does have some cool features that will be great once the bugs are fixed--new boot up screen with a progress bar, different transitions, ability edit default profiles, etc. I'm looking forward to a better update.

Well, after using .154 for a few days, I don't recommend this one either. Too many bugs. There was this annoying pop-up that displayed whenever you hovered over somebody's name in an email, and it stayed in one spot when you scrolled. It ALWAYS opened up on top of the subject line. Also there was the issue of not being able to save changes in a menu. When save/discard/cancel were displayed NONE were clickable.
Overall it is much peppier than 4.7.XX OSs, but stay away from this one.
I installed .191 today and these issues seem to be addressed. Threaded SMS and flick scrolling. The camera doesn't work, it causes a reset every time you launch it. I can live with that since I rarely ever use it. A .191 hybrid is in the works which should address the camera issue and a couple of the other bugs.

^ I have 5.0.0.191 installed.
Aside from a couple glitches, I like it. I don't think I can go back to not having threaded sms. It is by far the snappiest OS yet and there is NO memory leak.
The camera not working I can see being a problem for most people, but as I said before, I never use it. The biggest problem I found so far on this OS, is the screen doesn't always come back on after I unholster my phone. A couple times I managed to call people when I was frantically pushing buttons and the screen to get to come back on. A battery pull brought it back to normal, but it is a pain. For now, I just don't use my holster.

Been running 5.0.0.230 for a couple weeks, and this is by far the best OS I've had on this phone.
All the good things of .191, without the glitches. Camera works, the holster issue can be combated simply by putting it back in the holster. This OS is pretty close to what the Storm 2 will be released with.
I love having a send button in my emails.
