BB Tour
Got a Tour.
Loving it.
Anyone know if a FREE app to cycle the wallpaper? I have a folder on the MicroSD card with a bunch, and would love to have them change each day.

Have you paired it to the hands free link? Ive heard most tour users have issues with the person on the other end barely able to hear the user. This is with car kits as well as earpieces.
Was about to pull the trigger on the tour until i read this on crackberry. Might hold out until october for the storm 2.

I'm still holding off. Haven't needed it as much as I thought I would have. The next 2 weeks will be a key indicator for me though. Starting next Monday I will be out of the office for 7 of 10 days. And most of those days I will not have a lot of time to check e-mail. So, if I run into issues during that time, I will be getting a BB.

Coming form the 8830, the Tour seems to be having less than stellar battery life. I usually chalk this up to a lot of playing with the new phone, etc, but I am not, and the battery is still draining pretty fast. I could go two full days of use on the 8830 before I got to empty, but I don't think I can miss a single day of charging with the Tour.

While I really like the Tour, I have to keep both the volume and the screen brightness at their max settings, so the battery is going to suffer.
That 8830 could go for a LONG time without a charge...

My 8830 can go almost 4 days without a charge, while my 8330 can only go about 2 1/2 sometimes 3. Which is still good if you ask me. Im not sure the differences between my 8330 and the Tour, but here a few suggestions (im sure you already checked).
-change ringers/mail to vibrate once
-make sure your exiting/closing apps and browser not backing out
-remove apps that you'll never use
I wouldn't be happy at all with a 1 day charge. Im curious if other Tour owners are having the same results.

Luv, how is your battery life?

I don't have any ringer or anything set up for incoming email, and only a notifier for text messages.
I could go several days on my old phone and only be down a couple of bars, so this is going to take some getting used to.
many people don't know that you must close each app that u don't use and not just press the "end" button. hold the BB button for 2 seconds and all those apps are running at the same time. close them if u're done using them.
So....my Blackberry question was answered.
A buddy of mine gave me his 8830 World Edition. Not a bad phone. So I activated it yesterday. Played with it for a couple hours. Unfortunately the retarded IT department at work refused to give me the info I need to allow me to sync it to my work Outlook e-mail. They said that they will only support the Sprint Treo that the company supplies and that they will not allow me to use my BB. I have to speak with my boss and see if he can push it through. But for now, I went back to using just my standard phone.

Not worth the hassle. I can use if for my personal e-mails if I needed to, or to get web access. But I really would have liked it for work. If they don't want to support it, the I will be disconnected from work e-mail if I am not in the office. Not my loss. I'll see how the next 2 weeks go and then talk to my boss about it.
Turn off the LED coverage indicator, change the backlight time out to 10 sec, turn key tone off, and if you can turn the backlight brightness down to 10. All are located in options>>screen/keyboard. These will help your battery life quite a bit.
Also, the biggest battery killer is bluetooth. Disable it when you are not using and your battery life will change drastically.

Sho_nuff, I have done all except the screen brightness. I need the screen bright, and I think the screen is one of the killer selling points of this phone. If I have to make it look like a 1987 graphing calculator screen just to get decent battery life, that will suck. Having to always turn on and off BT will also be a real pain in the ass.

The screen brightness being on 10 really doesn't make it look that bad. Try it out. I thought the same thing when somebody told me to turn it down.
I feel the same way about the bluetooth, because I use it all the time in my car. I rarely ever turn it off, but the other adjustments have upped my battery life to more than 2 days even with BT on.
If I know I won't be in my car for a few days, then I turn the BT off. My battery has lasted nearly 5 days (with minimal calls) with it off.
It's probably cause it's a 3g phone instead of 2g. 3g is teh suck for battery life. See if you can turn that off and just go 2g. In the iPhone you can turn off 3g and just use edge (2g) which is way slower but not that bad for email, BBM, etc.
updated to OS 4.7.1.42 with much improved battery life.
Will try the latest leak, OS 4.7.1.53 when I get my replacement tour tomorrow and will update you guys. (puppy decided my blackberry would be a fun chew toy)

That's not true for all phones. It's more so true for the AT&T phones because 3G is not available in a lot of areas and the phone is constantly searching for 3G and switching between 3G & 2G. The fix for that is to simply set your phone on 2G.
This is not possible w/ Verizon phones.

Found a bug in the Tour OS/Software. RIM is aware and will hopefully fix it in the next OS release, whenever that is...
When setting ringtones/sounds, select an event (Email, SMS, PIN, etc) and choose "no" for sound in holster. Then select custom vibrate, and set it to any custom selection you want (short, 3 pulses, etc...) Even with 'sound in holster' set to NO, you get the custom vibrate activity and THEN the sound, while in the holster. Yay. It sucks.

I'm having trouble with my track ball and it's driving me crazy.
I have trouble with it moving side to side on a daily basis, and now it's decided to SOMETIMES switch which way is left and which is right. Say I want to move 2 icons over to the right....I have to move the track ball to the left to get there. It's fucking irritating the crap out of me. About a month or so ago, the ball also seemingly became dislodged and wouldn't do anything. I somehow got it back into its spot, but I'm just really getting pissed off with this thing. I want a new one.

I am waiting for the Tour 2 now. My crackberry Perl the keypad is having issues and I am eligible for new in 2 in 2 months so hopefully it will be out by then.
And as to your trackball problems, I have had to take my trackball apart numerous times to clean it as I was having the exact same problems as you.
