Basic Phones With Good Battery Power (Verizon)

I'm in the market for a new phone because my Moto Krzr totally sucks regarding battery power. Sometimes it's fully charged, then I talk on the phone for as little as 17 minutes, and the stupid thing starts beeping that it's low on power. It has to be charged every day even when hardly used. It's done this since it was brand new, and actually, this is the 2nd Krzr I've had. I took the first one back after only 3 weeks because it was doing this. I can't deal with it anymore and want a new phone.

So, question is, what phones in your personal experience have had decent battery power? I'm not looking for anything fancy (no Blackberry). Prefer a flip (clam shell) phone, don't need music or video capability. Want Bluetooth and VZ Navigator capability.

I have Verizon and according to their site, the LG VX8350 seems like a good choice for me. I'm going to stick with LG or Samsung this time around, no more Motorola.

I've checked out CNET's reviews and this one seems to do ok, but reviews are mixed on battery power, as are a lot of other phones. I guess batteries aren't holding up so great these days so I hope I'm not disappointed with the new phone.

The LG Chocolate 3 has a good battery life and has tone of features. The 8350 feels cheap and really isnt that great.

Thanks, will consider that one. I didn't like the sliding feature of the original Chocolate.

I am shocked how good the battery life is on my Samsung Juke, I wanted a basic phone with good battery life and I went with the Juke over the Verizon Coupe because it was actually cheaper and its battery spec'ed out a bit better. I had my doubts, but after a few charge cycles it proved to have the best battery life I've ever had with a cell phone.

Why not get the new blackberry flip? I know you said no BB, but just don't use it as one. It's a great phone with outstanding battery life and amazing features.

I actually just had to go to Verizon today on my lunch break to get a replacement battery for my XV6800. It's not anything you'd be interested in anyway but I will say that I was VERY happy with my experience at the Verizon store. First time ever I can say that.

My sister has the brand new version of the LG Chocolate. Last time I spoke to her about it, she said she had to charge it twice a week and it was fine. She talks on the phone quite a bit.

Yeah....no more Motorolas. I've had bad luck with them and in fact, when I was in the Verizon store getting my first one looked at, there was a lady next to me with the same problem. She and her husband were both having battery problems with their second set of Krzrs as well.

I would go to Verizon's website and find any phones that you think you like. Then go to howardforums.com and check out the ratings and possible problems.

I currently have the chocolate 2 and can't wait to get a new phone. I will NEVER ever get another slider phone.

Also do you actually use the VZ Navigator? I had a 30 day trial and found it very cumbersome to use.

I would suggest the Samsung SCH-U740. I've had this phone for about 2 years and the battery life is great. It's the dual flip phone. Great text messaging as well. I haven't had any issues with it.

I forget to charge it at night sometimes and last thru the next day.

I was wondering how the Verizon navi worked as well. My wife has the Sprint Instinct and their navi works great.

I will check out howardforums, thanks. I was actually on Verizon's site the other day and picked out a handful that I wanted to look into/test out at the store. The Chocolate 3 (flip) and U740 were on the list, as well as some others.

I do actually use the navigation thing, in fact I used it yesterday. It's ok, and I'd rather have one built into my car, but that'll have to wait a couple years till I get a new car. For now, VZ navigator on the phone is fine. It's usually very accurate, except yesterday it kept annoying me because it would "give up" trying to give me directions when I didn't follow the ones it was giving (I knew my own faster and better way around at certain points), and it also screwed up a little coming home from my trip and I guess it thought I got off the highway when I didn't, so it didn't tell me when to get off at the exit I was supposed to. After I got off the exit, it was back on track, but by then, I already knew how to get home.

The Nav works well. I have used it on my previous phones and have had no issues with it. I prefer to use Google Maps on my Blackberry for free then pay for the nav though.

I use www.phonescoop.com for reviews as well.

I've been thinking about getting a BB for awhile now. I can't check hotmail or gmail at work and I like the google map access as well. So the BB would help out.

The Curve is $100 after mail-in rebate now. Debating on waiting for the Storm to be released but it's supposed to be pretty pricy.

I finally settled on the Samsung Alias (the dual flip phone). I searched long and hard, even thinking about maybe a smartphone or Blackberry, but decided the plans for those phones are too expensive if you want the whole internet-email-messaging thing. Even the plan I upgraded to with the Alias is way more than I wanted to spend, but it's unlimited email, internet, and messaging so I know I won't have extra charges on my bill.

I feel a little relieved now that I settled on a new phone. I just hope the battery life is much better than my Krzr. Man that phone sucks ass.

You won't be disappointed. If you need an extra battery and charger, PM me. I upgraded to the Storm and have everthing for my old Alias.

Thanks! I was actually thinking about getting a 2nd battery. I'll see how it holds up first.

Same here, but I'll be keeping my Alias in case my Storm goes south. LuvMyTSX, if you don't mind adding some thickness to your phone, I bought the OEM Samsung extended battery for my Alias and I often went a week between recharges!

I ordered it online yesterday, so it will be arriving today by FedEx. I just hope they leave the package at my door even though it apparently needs a signature. I'm leaving tomorrow morning for the weekend and want my new phone!

That sounds awesome. I'll see how the original battery works out and if I find I need more juice, I'll definitely look into the extended battery.
