ATTN Comp Geeks... Intel takes crown back from AMD

We all know that AMD mopped the floor with Intel when they introduced their Athlon64 line, and they've kept up the momentum with Athlon64 X2. Well today, Intel retakes it's crown back with the Core 2 Duo chips. The entry level chip E6300 that costs 183$ and comes with a 1.83GHz clock stays neck and neck with AMD's X2 4600+ that costs 300 bucks.

"Intel's Core 2 Extreme X6800 didn't lose a single benchmark in our comparison; not a single one. In many cases, the $183 Core 2 Duo E6300 actually outperformed Intel's previous champ: the Pentium Extreme Edition 965. In one day, Intel has made its entire Pentium D lineup of processors obsolete. Intel's Core 2 processors offer the sort of next-generation micro-architecture performance leap that we honestly haven't seen from Intel since the introduction of the P6.
Compared to AMD's Athlon 64 X2 the situation gets a lot more competitive, but AMD still doesn't stand a chance. The Core 2 Extreme X6800, Core 2 Duo E6700 and E6600 were pretty consistently in the top 3 or 4 spots in each benchmark, with the E6600 offering better performance than AMD's FX-62 flagship in the vast majority of benchmarks. Another way of looking at it is that Intel's Core 2 Duo E6600 is effectively a $316 FX-62, which doesn't sound bad at all."
to Intel
to AMD for being the underdog that kicked Intels ass for so long

Looks good for the price, but are they selling it at a loss (for now)?
I have been purchasing AMD since I started building comps in middle school because they have always offered the price/performance that I was looking. I think the intels are a little bit more robust, although I was very impressed with the amd64's. One of my little "things" is that I refuse to be brand loyal because that just clouds up decisions. I think I will be using this cpu in my next build, especially if the price is that low.

It's about time Intel kicked it up a notch. They have been milking their line up of chips long enough. I'm glad AMD has been giving Intel a run for their money (literally) but the kid gloves are off.
Now ... make RAM chips cheaper (there was a conspiracy to keep prices high between '98-'02) and everything else inbetween cheaper ... I'd like to build a superfast system for less than C$800 with a 19" flatscreen. (including 14% tax ...

All I can say is wow.
I run a Dual Opteron desktop with a single 7800GTX (may go dual this XMas)
Now I see no reason with the 7950 cards on the market and the High end Crossfire cards, that my beast of a machine couldnt be bested by a stinkin Shuttle Cube running an Extreme 6800 and a top shelf video card.
I wonder how long it will take Dell to offer a XPS800?
