The Galaxy Tab has one of the nicer display screens of the tablets out there as it uses a PLS LCD. Lots of dev support on it at XDA and TouchWiz brings a lot of extra functionality that was missing in Honeycomb. ICS isn't out for it yet but it is coming in the next few weeks. I know I'm posting this late but a refurbished original ASUS Transformer is going for $250 at 1Saleaday on eBay. Not sure how long this is good for:

Hey, my boy won an Ipad2 16GB in a raffle and is selling it to me for $200 unopened in box since I helped out his son with eczema. I already have a Nook tablet I use for reading the Hunger Games Trilogy but would like to use the Ipad2 at work for electronic medical records. Obviously the convenience of taking the tablet into the exam room and reviewing medications and labs would be useful but I apparently have to run the Ipad2 through my office desktop to access the EMR which is through an ASP.

Currently, I have a HP laptop in the hallway and I take a peek at the note before getting in to see the patient.

I tried a HP netbook but I did not like it at all, difficult to use the keyboard and touchpad and the screen was a little too small and scrolling was a pain.

I know this is kind of a specialized question but would the Ipad2 be feasible and if so do you have any recommendations on the bluetooth keyboard I can use to dock the Ipad in the hallway? I plan on using a stylus since I have big fingers.

I believe some EMRs (the more expensive ones) have apps available for use on the iPad and Android devices. Although when I did a quick research on them back a few months ago, they weren't too secure and were really more for viewing notes than actually using them to take down notes. Not sure if that's changed now though. If the EMR you're using doesn't have a dedicated app, then you can use a Remote Desktop app (plenty available in the app store) to access the EMR and get full access to the program like you would with a computer. Your only limitation would be an active internet connection on both the server/desktop and your iPad and that would be dependent on the office/hospital policy. For a bluetooth keyboard, any bluetooth keyboard should work fine. If my Transformer didn't have a keyboard dock, the Logitech bluetooth keyboard would've been my choice as it serves as a case, dock and keyboard connector:

Yeah brah, that's what my IT said, the Remote Desktop app to access the EMR. Would the speed be substantially slower or similar to the other wireless devices in my office? We have closed/WEP encrypted network. My office desktop and 2 of the 3 reception area desktops are hardwired to DSL. I'll check out the Logitech keyboard. TY!

Speed should be just as good as any computer if the router you are using is capable and your Wireless signal is strong enough. The only issue I'm seeing is your IT's use of WEP as their form of security. That's fairly easy to crack compared to the other security options out there. At the minimum use WPA unless one of your devices can't support it?

My B, it's a encrypted WPA-PSK (TKIP). I'll hit you up when I get the ball rolling on the tablet, my boy in San Fran's new EMR is specifically tailored for Ipad use. I use Allscripts Touchworks BTW.

UPDATE

I played around with the Galaxy Tab 8.9 running Honeycomb 3.2 and the Ipad 3 at bestbuy for around an hour today....

Pros of the Samsung:
Very well made
Something about the form factor just makes it feel right in the hands
Apps were snappy
Decent Multitasking
Widget on the Android are just
USB port
Great Multimedia dock

Cons of the Samsung 8.9
Max 32GB
No memory expansion slot

Pros of the Ipad
the Ipad and the iOS work in conjunction and are so harmonious together
64GB
Retina display
Big ass app store
Multitasking is just awesome

Cons of the iPad
The apps an looking at are $50 where as the similar apps on Android at $5
The look and feel of the iPad has gone down (IMO)....it doesnt feel right in the hands
Maps are not as good as the Android


Based on my requirements and gonna get the Galaxy Tab 8.9

Since it has a USB port, you can technically expand the memory with any portable external hard drive or USB stick as Honeycomb and above support USB OTG. I do this a lot with my Transformer dock where I store movies, files, etc. on my external and just play from there when I'm too lazy to transfer them to my memory cards. Additionally, if you use a powered USB hub, you can plug in multiple USB devices at once.

If you have a Canon DSLR, you could grab a $5 USB OTG cable and attach the camera directly to the tablet and control it using DSLR Controller:

Don't have a Canon to test this with and it most likely wont work with Nikons because they don't supply their info like Canon does to allow this capability.
