Someone was nice enough to post the Snow Leopard drivers for my ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256MB and provide instructions on how to load them into Lion. My video problem is solved!

So I was able to successfully install Lion on my iMac last night.

I ran into two issues, one that I thought was going to be a major issue, but turned out to be nothing. After rebooting I went through as many of my mac programs as I could updating them to ensure that they wouldn't run into any complications with Lion.

Issues:

1) I run Macfuse + Tuxera NTFS to give me the ability to write to my NTFS partition that I use for Win7 installed via Bootcamp. After the Lion install completed and the computer restarted, the Win7 drive was no longer showing up from the OS X side. I got worried and thought that the partition was removed when Lion sets up the recovery partition. Turns out that I had to simply update the Tuxera NTFS program/drivers and all is well. I haven't tried booting into win7 yet, but will try that this morning.

2) after the reboot, OSX through a warning that a java runtime environment needed to be updated in order to make CS4 work properly on my machine, no biggie, software update took care of that without a problem.

Started noticing an issue on my mac where the APC Powerchute program for my UPS was pegging at 100% CPU usage. Turns out this program is no longer supported on mac. Couldn't find my disc that came with the UPS so that was a dead end. APC no longer provides the software as a download either, it would be helpful if they simply offered the uninstall script as courtesy to their customers.

After some searching I found this post: http://www.masters3d.com/2008/09/how...dition-mac-os/

where the guy links to an ftp site provided by APC. I downloaded the powerchute program and uninstalled the daemon that was causing the issue.

Here is the FTP link in case the site goes down:

ftp://ftp.apcc.com/apc/public/software/macintosh/osx/

so after being disappointed that the scroll back and forward gesture now only worked in safari, i found a bypass.

system preferences > trackpad > more gestures > swipe between pages

change two finger scroll to two or three finger swipe.
this will auto change full screen wiping to four fingers.

I'm trying to get a user's Intel Mac(desktop) upgraded to Lion. I don't know nearly as much about mac as I do pc. I have found out I can't download snow leopard but I can download lion. He's currently running 10.5.8 Leopard. I really wanted to get it done today but I'd have to wait a few days for the SL disc. However, my boss has a 17" macbook pro and it came with a SL disc. Can this disc be used to upgrade the desktop? I am buying the SL and Lion upgrades regardless but it would be nice if I could go ahead and start the process today with the disc I have. Will the disc I have work?

Probably not but if you got everything backed up with time machine you could give it a shot.

You could just torrent the SL iso and burn it. There's no copy protection and if you're paying for it might as well...

Ok, thanks. I was thinking of going the torrent route but wanted to make sure there wasn't any protection, etc.

There have been a lot of problems reported with the standard (small) update to 10.7.3. So many that Apple has pulled it from software update. Software update now offers the combo (large) update instead. You may want to install the large update even if you had no noticeable problems with the small one. It's 1.3GB and can be downloaded here... http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484

^Have you tried? Will it let you install it over top of the small one?

Yes, I installed it over the small update on my iMac. It only took about 5 minutes to install on my SSD equipped iMac.

Well they hung that big carrot out there of fixing my graphics driver. Fortunately I didn't have any of the problems reported with the update.

^That better be free

I guess that's all that's new, otherwise I'd like to think that they'd hold an event to show it off if there was more to show.

My guess is $30. Since they'll be on an annual release for OS updates now, $30 is fair to ask.

The Verge says it'll be a pay update coming summer 2012. I think I'll skip this one if that's all there is. It's just a port of iOS apps that I don't use on iOS and that I won't use on OS X. Only semi-interesting ones are Airplay Mirroring, Message and Notification Center and even then those are boring me.

Finally a dedicated notes app! Been waiting for that ever since I got my first iPhone 4 years ago. I don't use the Mail app so being able to edit notes on the desktop was non-existent for me so in turn it was a useless feature. Notes should have been included in iCloud from the start.

iMessage on the desktop is a I do still see a problem with this, unless they fixed it, how do you link your cell number on your wifi only iPad or desktop. This is the only major issue I found with iMessage. The sync feature is only useful if you go around telling everyone to message you by using your email address and not your cell number to get your messages synced between your devices. But to do that you gotta go around telling your friends to do that. (hope that all made sense)

You use your apple ID for iMessage.

That's how my sister does it on her wifi only iPad.

Ohh nice on the features of mountain lion. Stuff I've wanted on my PC.... Which I'm sure there are programs for but haven't searched for.

Anyways do you guys think the 11" MBA would be good for editing photos or should I save more coin for a 13" MBP?

Too bad the quad cores come in on 15"

I do the same on my wifi only ipad. What I'm getting at is that when someone text messages me using their iphone + imessage on my cell number, the messages do not sync with my iPad because my ipad doesn't have my cell number listed as one of the accounts to use for iMessage. So message syncing is useless for me on the iPad unless I tell everyone to message me using my apple ID if I know they use iMessage. I dunno, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but this is how it behaves for me.

Personally, I would get a MBP, but that's because I want more computing power and capability of more ram. I think the newer MBP are capable of running 16GB of Ram even if apple doesn't support it.

iirc if you have your signed into your apple id on your phone any imessage will go to both the phone number and apple id associated with it.

I just did a test with my bro and he Imessaged me from his phone to my phone number and the msg also appeared on my macbook air that was signed into my apple id.
