No, I still say safari has some bugs.

But aside from that I'm actually really liking the changes.

If you don't have or a use a trackpad/magic track pad....then you are losing out on the experience of using lion...and therefore Im sure it will seem very underwhelming.

This is apple starting to bridge the gap between the iPad and the personal computer...so far, I like where its going.

 

Let it install overnight since I was starting to pass out watching the screen, woke up and the computer has been working great. It "seems" faster than it was before. I like the update! I thought Dashboard went away, I still have it. (in addition to Launchpad and Mission Control)

You must have SLLLLOOOWWW AS Internet... I downloaded mines in class and it took like lets than 20 minutes to download. it took longer to load up than download.

I like the changes just wish Safari was up to par on how efficient google chrome is. I like the fact that the scrolling has changed to be more like the iPhone/iPad/iPod devices. For those who dont like the new way you can always change it back to the old settings in the control panel.

 

Oh I forgot to add... Them Fuckers at Apple charged me three times when I purchased Lion yesterday. Im on the mission to see WTF is up that and to get my money back.

Ha Ha they got some Nerve... If you want customer service from the app store, its only dealt with through email. They telling me that Apple fixed there end and that its not their fault after that. All I know is if they don't refund me back my Money We gonna have problems...

I was surprised with my DL speed at school. I figured I should have waited till I got home to do it since I have 25mbps at home, I think I got faster speeds at school. I figured they would block their T1 or what ever connection speeds for students but I was wrong

 

I have played around with Lion for a day now ...

I don't think it's *that* much faster on my C2D 2GHz macbook with 4 gigs of RAM & 7200rpm Seagate drive.

One thing I don't like is that I did not check to see if any software incompatibilities would exist. One of my daily use programs (Quicken 2007) has PPC code and requires Rosetta ... doesn't work in Lion!

Thankfully, I have Boot Camp so I can run a PC version of Quicken. There are no decent Mac financial apps that have the same feel as Quicken (perhaps I am so used to it ... been using Quicken since 1993 on my old Pentium-60 with SCSI-2 hardware ...)

 

my mom still uses quicken 2003 so she cant upgrade. Is there a newer version of Quicken than 2007 for the Mac?

I upgraded my MBP today, I'm gonna give the reversed trackpad thing a chance. I immediately disabled it on my miniserver since I'm using a scroll wheel, doesn't make sense to me on the scroll wheel. Unfortunately the settings are locked if you use a trackpad and scroll wheel you can't disable it on one device and not the other, the setting is universal.

I changed my mind. I switched the trackpad back to the old way because it's going to be really confusing for me when I'm in bootcamp and it's different and since there's no real benefit to the new way, it causes me more trouble than it actually provides any benefit so back it goes.

I'm disappointed in Address Book and iCal, they're slower and less functional, making my daily job take longer. Mail is improved. Mission Control and launchpad are great. Safari is wacked. Auto-correct typing is sweet. Full screen is ok but I don't think I'll ever use it except for iPhoto, which already had it. GUI is fresh and clean. Reverse scrolling makes sense but it's going to be difficult for any one switching from the PC.

Overall I'm frustrated because they've stupified Address Book and I may need to switch to something else now. But that's my only reason to be complaining.

 

Full screen is very useful because any app running full screen becomes its own "space" and to swap between them is a simple 3 finger swipe.

 

Pre-unibody MacBook's and MacBook Pro's don't support more than two fingers on their trackpads. So my good ole 4 year old MBP isn't able to do the three finger swipe. Once it dies I'll upgrade =)

 

It sucks. The only viable option with Quicken is to get the Windows version and run it in a VM or Bootcamp.

 

took me some time to get used to the "natural" scrolling on my magic mouse. But now it's fine. Kind of like using an inverted controller.

 

Anyone else have issues with lion slowing performance down? It's gotten better over time and isn't really that noticeable. Otherwise, everything else is pretty sweet especially the ability to create multiple desktops on the fly.

Tips:

I found inverted scrolling to be too weird to remember with no real benefit. It takes longer to scroll down by moving fingers upward due to friction. Switched back to normal scrolling after a day. Can be done through system preferences (common sense, but just putting it out there for the new mac users).

The finder window now opens up to all files as default. Sure it looks pretty with all your photos at the top and documents at the bottom, but the organization is just stupid. Who the fuck designed that? Like I really just sit and look at photos and videos all day.
After some digging through menus, I found that you can change the way finder opens. Can be done under Finder, Preferences, General, New finder window shows.

Does anyone know if two finger swipe works with programs other than safari? I thought you used to be able to swipe back and forth in the Finder window and browsers like safari? I may be mistaken though.

I post this here because those of you with Parallels need to upgrade, if you haven't already, to version 6 which includes support for lion in a recent update IIRC. Those that don't yet own it, this is a pretty decent price.

Could not stand the inverted scrolling.

Makes sense IMO on a touch screen display, but with a mouse/trackpad it doesn't make sense.

hmmm, I'm kinda looking for one that can do both NTFS and HFS+, I'd like to get a new drive either SSD or bigger drive and just clone both partitions to the new drive.

Normally I'd boot to Hiren's boot CD run Norton ghost and it would automatically copy all the partitions and even expand them automatically for you and the new drive works just like the old drive.


Actually while Norton says it doesn't support HFS natively they say it can support basically any file system when doing a sector clone, instead of a native clone. I might just go that way.

 

I guess if I have to I can use CCC to clone the Mac partition and then reconfigure Boot Camp on the new drive and then instead of reinstalling 7 and setting it up I could just restore from a Windows Home Server backup. That wouldn't be too bad, WHS can expand partitions too.

 

If you were to install something like Tuxera NTFS would the software then use the OS drivers to be able to read NTFS formatted drives?

You don't have to get used to it, but it seemed like something that was a big deal. I was just saying that it is natural to scroll that way if you think about it. Push up for the screen to go up and down for it to go down. Makes sense to me.

 

Ehh have you even used lion? It's like scrolling on the iPhone/iPad.

Push up (ie slide your finger up) and The screen scrolls down. Push down and the screen scrolls up...

The way you mentioned is how it was pre-lion

 

Liking it so far. Best new feature is the full screen. Second is the swiping of the forward and back in Safari.
