I found the installer. The installer gets removed after the upgrade. Luckily I made a Time Machine backup just before I let the upgrade run. I was able to restore the installer from my Time Machine backup

Let me get this right.... So if you want to make a disc make sure you download Lion but not install it yet until you follow the directions on that site you posted in order to make the disc then you are able to install it after disc is made?

Make a copy of the installer before you do the upgrade or the installer is going to go bye bye. Luckily I ran Time Machine before letting the upgrade proceed.

Buy Lion in App Store. Download it. The installer will launch. At this point the installer is located in the Applications folder. Copy it somewhere else so that after it gets deleted from the Applications folder you still have a copy somewhere else. Then finish running the installer.

I just noticed this as well while reading the Software Product page in the App Store. You have to buy both, you can't simply just buy Lion Server from the App store to upgrade from SL to Lion.

Even so, $80 to have a full server version is much better than the pricing for all the various flavors of W7

Ok got it working. For some reason the signal to my screen went out during the install and I couldn't turn it back on. I tried new USB keyboard, checked all the connections, the Mac was still on but no video coming out of it. Being very wary of doing a force shutdown during an OS install I let it sit but it never came back on. So I had to do a force shutdown and then it worked after I turned it back on again. I had this same issue when updating my Mom's iMac from Tiger to Leopard.

Though all my settings are gone, it's no longer joined to my windows domain and I had to rename it. I never setup Time Machine backup since this is mostly a test machine but I was under the impression that since this was an upgrade all my settings would still be there without having to restore from backup. But during setup my only two options were restore from another Mac Server/TM backup or setup new server, so I setup a new server.

Is it just me or does Lion have a little bit of an Ubuntu vibe to it, seeing the new buttons and flat look reminds me Ubuntu....

But if you go back to the app store it will allow a free download.

This seems like a torrent dream though.

Yea, this is what I don't understand about it and why everyone wants to download the installer and save it. Although I haven't done it yet, my hunch was that you could simply download the OS again from another computer using your Apple Account just like you download other apps you've previously purchased. Unless of course the purchase is a one time thing, but if you can simply save the installer and move it to any computer doesn't sound like Apple cares.

iTunes 10.4 is out, it brings Lion Full Screen and Resume support and it's a 64-bit app now!
Which means if you use any plugins for iTunes then they probably won't work now....

It's faster to copy the file instead of redownloading it?

This is only useful if you plan to burn a dvd or usb stick and think that you will need to do a clean install. If you happen to buy a new mini or air you can install to a fresh hard drive via download. That's a pretty cool feature.

Yea, I'd want to save it on my NAS just so I have a backup, but I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm not worried about how I'm going to update both of my macs at home using only one purchase.

The recovery partition is only 650MB, you can access it by holding cmd+r or hitting the option key during boot up

Yeah I see it there wasting my SSD space. It's not a lot of space but if someone finds instructions on how to move it to another drive post it up!

Mission Control, and to some extent full-screen apps, are more useful than I thought. Being able to add another desktop quickly with Mission Control is pretty cool.

Thats the thing...Apple has never really about software and its sales.

They always consider themselves to be a hardware company.

Who here actually bought the "family pack" editions back in the day? I never did....and we would put that one "single" edition disc on 5-6 computers.

Apple has never cared about letting software go...their software sells their hardware for them.

I keep getting tripped up that a 3 finger swipe now changes the space/app....and a 2 finger swipe is now how you go back/forward on web pages.

trips me out.

I think I'm going to wait a few weeks and see if they release an update to correct any issues that they didn't catch prior to launch.
