Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread

Why are Apple fan boys so hypersensitive? How is that a personal problem? Charging your phone by dropping it on a pad or near an induction device is genius. They exist now, but I don't want a thick ass ugly case on my iPhone. Ooops, I know it makes more $$$ sense for Apple to sell you a $20 cable?
It's good to be loyal to your favorite brand, but have an open mind and realize that you dictate the corporation's future (and you do with your purchases) and not vice-versa. Free thinking is allowed.

I seemed to recall that Apple gives you a cable when you buy the damn phone!
I'm no fanboy, but when people are ragboi's, I'll laugh at you every time.
^ you starting to sound like a grumpy old man, oy vey. The little tiny cable? because i never charge my phone in the car or at work, yes, one cable will do. Thanks! Brilliant.
PS Flawed thinking about me or someone else making it work; this is why you pay the big bucks for your iDevices...they do it for you and you pay for it. The luxury, egh?

How many of them are you going to have to buy for your house and your car and your bedroom. They won't be $20 cables. Yeah, that's less room on the nightstand, console of the car and your desk at work. When the one little cable given to you and a $10 AC/DC USB plug, works fine.
^ it works great actually, fast and reliable, but we want more more more more more. =]

Well, have fun with your buggy fucking operating system. Great, your phone has been doing what apple just now does. Congratulations. And for what its worth.. I can get your precious Google Now on my iPhone, so that argument is invalid.
You are seriously off your rocker if you think that Android has led the innovation train. They have all stolen shit from one another. ALL of them.
With that said..... I remember a time when all you android fanboys would say "The biggest reason I would never get an iPhone is because it doesn't have a removable battery"... How many High End Android devices out there have a removable battery these days? Thought so...

Who gives a shit which one is better. Just get what suits YOU and stop bitching which one is supposedly superior.
And if you're gonna criticize a phone/OS at least get your facts right before opening your mouth.

As for wireless power, apple is working on something but not the dumb induction based "wireless" charging. They plan to use something like witricity with oscillating magnetic fields.
Their patent calls for something like an iMac as the base and can charge any device up to 1 meter away. No laying your phone on a charging pad. No line of sight needed.

I'm surprised the camera didn't get a photosphere type thing. All it got was an "instagram" thing really.
I'm still iffy about this design. I like the change, but a few things its just not good, mainly the icons. They need to redo the icons.

iOS 7 officially is going to be released only in the fall? :/ I don't know if I want to play with beta on my daily phone. I guess I'll wait for more feedback. What's the latest signed iOS6 I can revert to?

^ When you can have customized screens of work stuff: realtime sales, inventory control, etc and another screen with realtime of gmail, yahoo, business emails on one page, and you have live traffic, with live weather going, and all of that without ever tapping on anything... Let me know, Ill throw my work-horse Note 2 into the garbage.

Man, this is starting to sound like when Honda fans started having criticism of Honda for not being innovative, and Honda fanboys started saying they were fine with vanilla because its reliable....

Same can be said for Apple. It took Apple 7 iterations of iOS for us to get a simple toolbar to enable/disable wifi and bluetooth. Users have been complaining about that for years. They could have easily added it to notification center, right above the weather widget if they wanted to.

I had a Palm Pre back then. That was an awesome feature and the first true multitasking phone. WebOS was an awesome UI. It was just too underpowered and they never developed a flagship phone. It also couldn't compete with the Play Store or iTunes as far as app support goes. Shame.

Besides HTC pretty much all high end Android phones have removeable batteries. Got my Galaxy S4 loaded with 2000 songs from iTunes and a spare battery so when your iPhone is all out of juice I can go for another day.
And nope far from buggy. Ever since Android 4.0 it has been night and day with reliability. Not as butter-smooth an iOS, sure, but NEVER crashes and very slick.

Office for iPhone: Microsoft delivers basic document editing, but no iPad version
A subscription version finally arrives
http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/14/44...es-screenshots
A subscription version finally arrives
After months of rumors and speculation on Microsoft's Office plans for iOS, the software giant is finally delivering a copy for iPhone today. Office Mobile for iOS will be strictly iPhone only initially, and Microsoft is only offering access to the application through an Office 365 subscription. When we first uncovered Microsoft's Office for iOS plans in November, we had heard basic viewing functionality would be enabled in the apps. Those plans have clearly changed, and to view and edit documents you'll need to sign into an account with Office 365. There's no free standalone version, nor an iPad edition.
NO FREE VERSION, NO IPAD EDITION
The basic application consists of four sections to access recent documents, SkyDrive folders, document creation, and settings. It's a lot like the Windows Phone version of Office, with support for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. You can freely create Word and Excel documents, but there are no options to create a PowerPoint presentation from the device. Loading up a Word document is straight forward, and you can quickly jump into edit options directly within the same viewing interface. The editing interface isn't as straight forward as it should be. Initially I was confused. I tried to highlight text using the familiar controls of iOS, but I was greeted with a comment notice. Eventually I discovered that you have to double tap on words to get the typical highlight controls. Once you've highlighted text it's easy to hit the edit button and gain access to formatting options.
<script height="318px" width="565px" src="http://player.ooyala.com/iframe.js#pbid=dcc84e41db014454b08662a766057e2b&ec =p2Ym5kYzqoPKoRm2W_y-31uTYG_3AfeK"></script>
The editing controls are actually a lot better than Windows Phone's Office version, once you get used to them. You can quickly undo changes and see them update in real time within documents. On the Windows Phone version it's difficult to undo your changes as the editing options display in a separate section. Apart from the initial confusion, I was quickly updating documents on my iPhone and seeing those changes reflected on Office Web Apps and the desktop version of Office.
Excel includes largely the same editing options as Word, but there are a few more specific options for spreadsheet data. If Word was confusing for editing, then Excel isn't much better. Highlighting cells was super frustrating initially, until you realise you have to highlight in the very center to drag and highlight additional ones. Once you've highlighted the relevant data, it's easy to create tables and charts that you can insert into separate tabs in the spreadsheet. You can also apply basic filters, an AutoSum calculation, and column sorting for data. You can even change the formulas in single cells, making it useful for changing mistakes on the go.
PowerPoint is the most basic out of all three. You can edit text, and hide and move slides, but there's little other customisation here. A Slide Navigator view lets you quickly browser around a presentation, and a landscape mode provides full access to the PowerPoint with options to create speaker notes. Because you can't create PowerPoint documents, it's really designed for quick edits from your phone.
Microsoft's offering for iPhone users here is really designed to be used in conjunction with SkyDrive. All document changes will sync up to Microsoft's cloud service, and they're fully accessible from Office Web Apps and the Office 2013 desktop applications. When you first load the app you'll be greeted with options to buy an Office 365 subscription or simply sign in. Microsoft had some issues updating its SkyDrive iOS application, due to the way subscriptions for additional storage worked in-app on iOS, but those differences have now been resolved. Unfortunately for Microsoft, Apple will take a cut on Office 365 subscriptions that are purchased directly from within Office for iPhone. Microsoft isn't revealing exactly how much, but if it's the same as other in-app purchases then it could be as high as 30 percent.
Overall the app is really basic, and designed for on the go editing. Microsoft says it's not planning to create an iPad version, noting that tablet users can utilize the Office Web Apps instead. We'd like to see some additional options for editing, including more clear options for text formatting and the ability to insert and change images, but it's a solid attempt for something you're only really going to use for editing in emergencies. Office for iPhone is available immediately for US users, and it will roll out internationally in the coming days.

If you overclocked it with a better kernel, it greatly improved response time without hurting the battery life. The original webOS release with the Touchpad was a bit sluggish, later official updates fixed it.

Soooo, I currently have an iPhone 4, have had it for about 3 years. Works fine other than the home button constantly sticking (I have to press it 20 times to get it to work sometimes) and i have noticed it is noticeably slower than when it was new.
I can upgrade for $200 with my AT&T contract but also get back ~$115 for my old phone then pay some $35 restocking fee so basically pay $120 for a new iPhone 5 (16gb I think). Worth it? Worth waiting for something new, if and when it comes out?
